According to Scout's rankings. Note that Scout's rankings take your top 25 recruits for rankings, and you get a 0 for each one up until 25, so that's why we're so low here. Maybe not the best indicator in terms of stars per recruit, but overall talent intake it can be a good measure. Anyway, here's some interesting current rankings where teams seems to be a long way away from their norm.
Michigan State #9; 20 commits (normally ranked around where we are)
TCU #12; 22 commits (normally ranked a little behind us)
Baylor #15; 21 commits (normally ranked where we are, but have trended higher past couple years)
Pittsburgh #22; 23 commits (normally ranked above 30)
Tennessee #23; 17 commits (normally top 10-15, but they could be waiting on others to sign)
Texas Tech #26; 26 commits (normally in the highs 30s; they have a lot of commits that are inflating their current rank)
Texas #27; 15 commits (normally top 10 but have a small class as of now)
Texas A&M #31; 16 commits (normally top 10 but small class as of now)
Miami #37; 17 commits (normally top 20)
Louisville #43; 22 commits (normally mid 30s to upper 20s)
MISS ST #45; 16 commits (normally low 30s to low 20s; smaller than usual class this year; looking to sign about 20)
Oklahoma St #50; 18 commits (normally right where we are low 30s to low 20s; they have no 4 stars now either)
I'm not looking for any silver lining, I was just looking at the rankings and I saw some things that looked a little off this year. Some of the bigger names will sign some higher ranked guys on signing day I'm sure, but to me it looks like a lot of teams who are usually looked at as top talent schools are struggling to this point before NSD and several are over achieving this year.
You could say TCU and Michigan State are finally seeing their success pay off bc they are normally right where we are. Not to mention they have much bigger classes than we do now, but they do have 13 and 11 four stars each respectively. We have 3 currently with 5 or 6 max at this point for a total if we can get Lashley, Jones and either Simmons, Brown or someone else.
I'll finish with this. State absolutely dropped the ball and needs to re-evaluate how we recruit. Development is nice and we need it, but until we get a few more elite guys per class, we'll stay where we're at which is mid level SEC West.

South Carolina: #29 (25 commits)
Kentucky: #34 (24 commits)
Arkansas: #35 (20 commits)
Missouri: #55 (17 commits)
Vanderbilt: #65 (20 commits)
