1Pope will cave to the pressure. 2Look his self in the mirror tonight and make some serious changes. 3Be fired very very soon if 2 doesn’t happen.

1. Him resigning is the only way (aside from an improbable scandal) that he isn't coaching next year.
2. He's lost. He doesn't know what changes to make.
3. You have Mitch as AD, and we just fired our football coach. We would have to lose out for Pope to be fired.
If Pope keeps losing he will be fired man

Fire Mitch and get someone who has the stones for this job to make the right hire. He is the common denominator of it all every time Kentucky Basketball has been in the ******* this century. Real schools pull the trigger on AD's and coaches rather than let them get stuck in a perpetual state of mediocrity. They don't get multiple chances to screw up a basketball school or football school before losing their job. We see it all the time, just not at Kentucky and that has got to change.

There’s a level of losing where you can’t come back from it. I don’t know if this team hit that yet but it will happen if it hasn’t. What’s left of team goals eventually shatters under the weight of failure. There is no resurrection behind door number 3 as much as I want there to be. Inevitably, when we win another game, I’m sure I’ll figure out how to believe it can happen —- it will be fool’s gold. Sometimes you can only see how deep the valley is from the bottom.

I will bet you any amount that Mark Pope won’t be fired this season or after this season simply for wins and losses alone.

Barring scandal or anything criminal, Pope will be coaching for his job next year. Mitch doesn’t fire his coaches for one bad year. He fires them for two bad years consecutively or for cause like BCG.

We’re just gonna have to live with it. Carry on.

If pope wins a couple then loses a couple he won’t be fired. If mark Pope goes on a five or six game losing streak get your popcorn ready. He won’t be fired for losses unless it gets to the point of 6 or 7 in a row. I really believe that.

I believed cal would be gone at the end of the season like he ended up. Believed stoops would be gone like he ended up. I believe Mark Pope will be only if he loses that many in a row.

The thing is…. I don’t think he will lose that many in a roll and 100% will be here next year unfortunately.

In the past, I would have agreed that he wouldn’t get fired at the end of this season considering it’s just his second year. I’m not so sure about that now though because of all the money that’s involved with NIL.

It’s row, not roll

This season is over. No change can make us a good team. We play vandy and tenn twice. Fla twice. @ARK. We will lose 14 games this year. Its over johnny
Yep. How OP and others don’t understand this amazes me. What lineup change would make this team a contender, let alone mediocre? None. There’s literally nothing he can do with this group of guys he recruited and boasted about.

Fact is Pope is a mediocre coach at best and this roster is devoid of legit talent and skill.

And the worst part? Pope will be back next year, as will some of these players, and it’s highly unlikely that the roster will be any better. Sad times.

The logic side of my brains agrees. The emotional side waves its finger and points to a picture of Mitch standing next to Joker, another former UK player turned coach.
I think a losing season will do it. And he’ll flirt with that for sure. As others have said, it may be time to root for the Cats to lose from here on out. Pope needs to go.

Two of the three options is Pope not being here so I fully understand

Isn’t AB3 title associate Head coach. Most people I’ve heard say Fox should take over the coaching this season. If it happened that Pope resigned or was fired, I think it would and should be AB3.
Also wasn’t AB3 considered an elite recruiter for Scott Drew at Baylor? Makes it more baffling we’re not signing anyone

Pope won’t be fired. He will be back next year and have another year like his first year and get a 5 year extension.

You can't fire him mid-season. That would be a very bad look for UK and any good replacement coach that we would hope to land.
Even firing him after just 1 bad season would be questionable. That does NOT mean what we've seen the past 2 months is acceptable, absolutely it is NOT!!!
Last year was fairly successful, especially considering the injuries, and that it was too late to recruit top FR so the whole team had to come from the portal. I'd give last year a B+ (at least a B). Unfortunately this year is at D- (& heading downward).
Assuming we don't have a magical turn-around this season, and assuming Barnhart gives him a 3rd year, then what I would like to see MB do is bring in an outside basketball consultant (like a Jay Wright) to meet with Pope, the assistants, the players (those returning and who left/leave), and give MB some changes that Pope must implement. For example, something like: must hire/change a defense coach, must hire/change an offense coach, must hire/change a shooting coach, must hire/change a scouting coach, must hire/change a recruiter, must bring the players to live on campus together, must hire/change strength/conditioning coach, etc...

Going into the season, based on a deep dive into the statistical backgrounds of the players coming in, I did not think we would be as good as last year's team. However, I did think we'd be a pretty good team, certainly much better than we have shown. Even the wins over Indiana and St John's are slowly losing any luster they may have had. Barring a seemingly impossible turnaround, this season will continue to be very disappointing ... unfortunately.
