Sounds like he loves NU but not necessarily where it is located. Distance from home may be the reason we don’t land this guy. Hope I am wrong.
Yeah Illinois from Georgia would be a nasty move. I have been in Sumter SC for 2 years and only have seen a smattering of snow once. There is really no winter here, just fall type weather. Yeah a few weeks that are like maybe late fall/ early winter in the Great Lakes region.

We certainly have had a fair number of kids recruited to NU from the southeast lately. I do think the relationship with the staff trumps location. Simmons sounds pretty set on studying aerospace engineering, and his regional options are quite good, but he explicitly states that NU "is probably the best school out of all my five.” So if he decides to explore other academic options outside of aerospace, NU is well positioned there.

I like our chances, especially if we can get him on campus in May or June, when the weather is good and the campus is not deserted. Our facilities compare well with his other schools.

May or June? It doesn't get consistently warm here until the last week of June.
My family recently relocated from Georgia to Michigan. Staring at another high of 45 this morning, I finally looked it up and, holy jeez, this is apparently normal.

It’s not the deep of winter that kills you, it’s the long tail that does it. Maybe it’ll be nice on Memorial Day? Wow!

The wall of humidity from May until September isn’t so fun, but most nights trick or treating for a decade were spent in shorts.

My family moved to Michigan when I was 3 back in 1973. My 4th bday on St. Patty's Day was during a blizzard. We lived in Allen Park, just south of Detroit for over 40 years. From the 90s til about the beginning of the Obama era, there was no real spring. You went from winter to summer. Memorial Day should be nice. It is March and April that can give you a few surprises.

If you're in West Michigan, prepare for four months without the sun annually. Summers are fantastic though.
