It's not out of the question that a kicker like either Brown's or Henery could have made this team unbeaten, even with all the other issues. Imagine the ability to hit those 45-50 yarders with a high rate would have potentially done to almost every outcome.
At the end of the day, Frost MUST start to pay attention to details. I've always said, "it's the little difference that makes the big difference."
I think he was paying attention to special teams and in fact they did bring in multiple different punters and kickers to try to fix those areas. He fired his special teams analyst and brought Dawson back. That helped our kick coverage. It wasn't Dawson's fault that our punter mishit a punt at Michigan State. Even NFL teams struggle at times with their kickers. Not as much with punters but to get to that level as a punter you've got to be damned good. Some NFL teams will go through multiple kickers until they can find a guy who can consistently make short field goals.
We don't have the luxury of bringing in free agent kickers every week. Hell our kicker was All B!G last year. Who would have thought that he would lose his mind this season? The level of unpredictable crap that hit us with our kicker and punter this year was just a killer and I don't think there was any way to plan for it.
My main concern going forward is QB decisions and OT play. Fix the OT play and it probably helps the QB's confidence and his decision making. We'll find a better punter I'm guessing and hopefully our kickers can get their heads right. Our OTs against OSU were getting destroyed in pass pro. HAVE to fix that. IF we can get Teddy back 100% by next fall that would be a huge help iMO.
