“But the motion, someone has been throwing (the same way) for 20 years of their life, you’re not going to change their motion, you don’t have time."

Maybe if the guy that messed with Woodson knew this, Andre would still be in the league somewhere.

Maybe maybe not, look at the basketball player who changed his shooting motion, he did it in one off season but was very dedicated to making improvements in his motion.

Yeah, and what about the golfer that changed his swing, the discus thrower that changed his technique, the soccer player that changed his kicking motion and the curling player who changed his brush stroke...

What does softly push arching a large ball have to do with rifling an oblong ball at a dart board?

Or the painter that changed his brush stroke?

Maybe I'm not recalling this correctly but wasn't the JUCO QB motion a bit of a concern?

I heard the first thing that Hinshaw asked for was video of his throwing motion. And instructing him to keep his elbow up. I'd say he came away satisfied with what he saw.

I think the article is a bit misleading. The first quote from Hinshaw (i.e., the second sentence in the article ) is:

“No. 1, he he has to have a motion and can throw the ball accurately,” he said. “Believe me, I’m very picky with that. If you don’t have that motion … everything else I can fix..."

But from there on, no mention of accuracy. Unless Hinshaw implicitly means "good motion" means "good accuracy" I suggest to you accuracy is more important than mechanics. Now great QBs like Rodgers, Brady and Manning have everything. But I think I would prefer a QB with great accuracy and good mechanics over a QB with great mechanics and good accuracy. [winking]

Peace

If I'm Barker I'll extract every bit of info that I can from Hinshaw and Gran that I can. I hope all these small details stay with him under pressure and he can make a few more plays late in games. As it related to Towles he needed to learn game management as much as anything the last few years Hope Barker or Johnson can game manage well, if we can just do that we should be much better.

This guy would have been good for Towles.

One of the most frustrating things to me is PT had to go outside the program to get the additional instruction to improve so he could compete for the starting position.

Wouldn't happen with these coaches.

Sure is a more competent sounding QB coach than one who's sole emphasis was on hand size, ain't it?

Accuracy was a given in the article. ..it was #1. What he's saying with motion is a quick release with a good release point in the arm. Coaches are limited in the amount of time they can spend on players. He's saying that given the amount of time he has to work with a guy that you can fix hips and feet faster than the throwing motion and accuracy. Breeze as reference is probably his prototype

Curiously, are there any of those out there?
Well, there is no stat for "mechanics" but I see here that 20 QB passed at a 65% completion rate or better last year. You cross this list with another category (e.g., passing yards, YPA or total attempts) to weed out any high percentages due to limited attempts. But I see some recognizable names in that top 20 by percentage list.
