Another departure: While it’s unclear when Meant will return to the team, tight end Darryl Long is exiting in a more permanent way, with Stoops saying the 6-foot-4, 246-pound sophomore from Ohio is transferring. “He’s going to transfer somewhere where he can get more playing time,” Stoops said. “We’re getting deeper at that position, even with the emergence of the true freshman Justin Rigg. We wish Darryl the best and I appreciate everything he did for us.” A star emerged last season in C.J. Conrad and Nebraska transfer Greg Hart also has shown big potential at that spot, Vince Marrow said recently.

Rigg has been a pleasant surprise. Always a good physical blocker but has shown the ability to get open and catch. Just wish we could redshirt all our freshmen

Long does not have much experience. Marrow always spoke highly of him, but Long must have seen that he was not in a good position to get onto the field.

Gran:
Justin Riggs is pushing Greg Hart and C.J. (Conrad) to get on the field. It’s awesome.

Why do Sophmores think they deserve playing time. Nothing was promised to them. Earn it dang nabbit!!!!

I think the problem is more to do with the fact the talent he is competing with for playing time are young guys too. If it were older guys starting in front of the kid, odds are he probably sticks around and waits his turn. If the talent on the team are just as young as you or younger, the writing is on the wall and you need to go elsewhere or you might just end up wasting away your time in college on the football field. I wish the kid the best! I'm sure transfering is not something he enjoys doing. He just wants the chance to get on the field before his playing days are over.

If the best offer this kid could get after leaving Kentucky is Akron, that might explain why he decided to transfer. I am not meaning to show any disrespect to this kid. He has put a lot of hard work in to help Kentucky football win games, but Akron aint exactly known as a football powerhouse. The fact this saw the type of talent he would be competing with on the field and decided he couldn't win playing time says we are pretty good at TE.

Two of our more highly regarded recruits in the 2014 class, Krok and now Long, are playing at Akron. Who knew?

Interesting characterization of these two. More highly regarded? In relation to the class, Long does not fit that description. Over half the class was as "highly regarded" or more than Krok, by rating services.

Regardless, both are from Ohio. So transferring to Akron makes geographic sense. I hope they both have awesome careers.

Akron is good choice. Terry Bowden is doing a good job there and has slowly but surely turned that program around. By the way, Krok is not listed on their roster.
