Next 2 weeks will tell a lot about TJ. UCLA's defense isn't great but PSU and IA are both great defenses. Let's remember TJ vs usc in 1 half threw for 7 yards, fumbled 3 times and single handedly ended the comeback by tackling our running back. I want him to succeed and there to be a real competition next year, but if he struggles the next 2 weeks lets not be surprised.
We seem to have a tendency to get real cocky after a nice win & not show up with any sense of urgency the following game.

Hopefully they're working hard this week & next and know they can't mess around with Penn St & Iowa.

I think the coaches pissed their pants with that more than TJ did. I'm not going to blame TJ when he wasn't even given a chance to go out and win the game.
I think he was given a chance. Shoot, he just had to not trip EJ up and that final drive continues on.

But I do I agree with your first part. The coaches were probably scrambling / pissing their pants initially.

Gary Pinkel at Missouri used put the 2nd string qb in for a series the first half of every game to get meaningful snaps and make sure they were prepared when called upon.

Honest question: How was he poorly prepared? What specifically was/wasn't done in practice leading up to the game, or during the game, that would have resulted in being properly prepared?

Just my opinion, doesn't need to be justified. It was clear he never expected to enter that game because his whole mindset was about maintaining his redshirt, just what he was told. I'm not knocking TJ, love the kid. The thing is, when he came in, and they panned in on his face, fear was written all over it. His mind wasn't there and it showed in his play on that game. Nothing wrong with a true freshman going through that in his first big game, it's expected I think.

You just said the same thing you questioned me on, only from a different angle. I didn't question TJ, just felt he was poorly prepared.
