better and more animated than he has in years when he was interviewed after PC.
ThanksJust was very positive about Frost and his understanding of the culture that made Nebraska great. Also very positive about Moos and the leadership now.
It's all good now. I would say all of us who supported Riley and his staff until almost the bitter end are happy with this hire. Tom is happy I'm sure. The Husker alums are happy. It's all good now we just need to be patient and let him build a program. With any luck we won't have to track any airplanes again in my lifetime.Duck
He told Severe that Scott was ready 3 years ago and went on to explain that Lincoln Reilly, Kirby Smart, and Dabo Sweeney were all first time head coaches at their schools and they are all now in the Playoff so yeah I get the feeling he wanted Scott hired in 2014.I don’t really know why, and I have no evidence to suggest it, but it sure seemed like Osborne was never in the Riley camp.
He seems more than thrilled to have Scott here now.
Maybe he was pissed that Eichorst didn’t consider him in 2014 so Riley just caught the wrath.

Tom could hold a grudge and while I don't think he disliked Riley, I don't think he was very excited by him either. Tom's getting really old. I think he's happy that he thinks we hired a good guy AND good coach that will be with NU for a long time.I don’t really know why, and I have no evidence to suggest it, but it sure seemed like Osborne was never in the Riley camp.

Ahhh so it was the old butthurt thing. I would have been fine with Frost 3 years ago. I was ready for anybody but Bo and Frost would have killed it with TA as his QB.He told Severe that Scott was ready 3 years ago and went on to explain that Lincoln Reilly, Kirby Smart, and Dabo Sweeney were all first time head coaches at their schools and they are all now in the Playoff so yeah I get the feeling he wanted Scott hired in 2014.
It most definitely would have been rolling the dice but in hindsight it would have likely been a better situation than what we had. Frost's success in Florida could pay off for years to come in recruiting though so I guess all is well that ends well.He said to some reporter (can't remember who) that Frost was the best candidate three years ago and "it wasn't even close."
Judging from what Frost said today, he may not have accepted three years ago.
Well - unlike Callahan I doubt it was because Riley was overheard calling TO a crusty old F@#$

I don't believe that for a second. I think he would have been here faster than you can say "Just a coordinator." I think he was really pissed that he didn't even get a call. For the record, I was really on board with him being hired then, and it makes so much sense that tool Eichorst didn't even contact him. Another opportunity to thank Harvey Perlman for being the complete sack of crap that he is.
It would have been fine with HP and Scott and if Scott didn't like SE, the powers that be would have made sure that SE got canned.Yes- he was very disappointed he didnt even get a sniff
Yes- he probably WOULD have taken the job
HOWEVER- it would not have been a great fit, because SE and Perlman would have been in charge. Because it was those two, he never got a call and he wouldnt have been successful with them in charge. He talked about that on two separate occasions during the press conference. The unity of purpose and shared vision for excellence on the field was not shared by SE and HP.
I also think TO would have warned SF NOT to take the job had SE and HP been "leading"- which was the case 3 years ago.
I guess all we can do is take coach Frost at his word. I interpreted it as he would not have come. Timing is right this time because the correct leadership is in place.I don't believe that for a second. I think he would have been here faster than you can say "Just a coordinator." I don't know that he disliked Riley so much as he disliked the process that was followed in bringing him in.
Exactly. This whole narrative is laughable. They are basically saying Scott can only be successful in this exact setting. I think he is better than that and the other stuff is just noise, but that's just me.It would have been fine with HP and Scott and if Scott didn't like SE, the powers that be would have made sure that SE got canned.
I don't think it's much of a mystery. An old coach like Osborne couldn't have been too pleased with the Riley team he saw on the field. Those blow outs must have been especially painful. I'm sure he also was familiar with Riley's long track record at Oregon State just like the rest of us so he knew what was coming before Riley even coached his first Nebraska game.I don’t really know why, and I have no evidence to suggest it, but it sure seemed like Osborne was never in the Riley camp.
