Kind of bothers me a little that everyone seems to think Stoops already has the new OC secured. It's almost too fast. Why not wait until after the bowl season, look at all your options?

I have no information and will post what I think is happening. Stoops was torn between TG and Dawson. He made a decision that he now regrets and reached out to TG to see if he would be willing to come even after being passed over. Just my gut feel and reading of the tea leaves.

Pretty clear Stoops decided weeks ago to make a change with his OC. If he has who he wants, why not now? My only question is if Gran is his choice why didn't he hire him last year?

I think the reason Dawson got the nod was because he was well regarded as a QB coach, something that Stoops said that he wanted.

Because other options might be gone by then?
Yep. Cincinnati Enquirer reporter indicates that is the case with Gran. Probably the same with every other top candidate.

Word is
#UC OC Eddie Gran could be a candidate for OC job at #Kentucky. May be other suitors also, per sources.

Go get Jeff Brohm as a Co-Head Coach in charge of offense and pay him $2 million +. If Stoops acceps that, we have our OC. If Stoops' pride is more important to him, he will resign without a buyout, and we have our new coach

In reading different articles, Gran was number three in line (ok, I know) with Riley and Dawson. Also had known Coach Stoops previously. There's a part of me that wonders if there hadn't been some kind of quiet talk a good way prior to the end of the season.....and I will guess it likely heated up a bit after the Vanderbilt game.

Gran certainly would have the pedigree. Experience, experience in the SEC. Not really an Air Raid disciple, runs more of a pro set with a lot of what we used to call the West Coast Offense look. Not afraid to use the quarterback as a runner in the past. Has had enough experience to change gears according to personnel.

Having said all that, he could well say thanks but no thanks.

Why not 4 million?

Why hire before all the bowl games?
  1. The empty void of no OC for 3-5 weeks gets recruits edgy. You're better off getting your OC in place so they can hurry up and form relationships with recruits, cuts down on decommits.
  2. If they guy you want is on the table, why waste time and risk someone else poaching him? Get your guy now.
  3. The upcoming winter break is a time when the new OC can come in, get set up, and begin working with the coaches. That would give some much needed continuity to the staff.

Actually, I am pretty sure that Gran turned us down last year as did Riley and Coley. Dawson was the 4th or 5th guy on the list.

This is why I think coley might be a candidate as much as gran...he is out at Miami which he might take this job where last year he didn't... Of the 2 most think gran is better, I really don't know who would be the best. Gran may get more with less, but will he fit what stoops wants... For stoops to be successful he needs a oc who is on the same page as he is..If that is the deciding factor I would prefer coley over gran if he want more of a traditional offense..

Yeah, it isn't like we are another Bama, just ask Harris. But times change, since he is very successful at what he does I would have to assume that he believes he is good, good enough to take some very good offensive talent that we have accumulated lately and turn it into a winner on a much bigger stage. And in fact IF he does come having the THREE four star OL coming in next year (and a good shot at a five star the next year if he is successful here) along with some other very good talent might be the deciding factor. Certainly he should feel he won't be saddled with unrealistic expectations------oh wait, scratch that last part.

The OL his second year could have 5.7 AA, 5.8 Jackson, 5.9 Leavitt, 6.0 Young, and a FIVE STAR from in state that knows all these guys. UK's worst offensive weakness for decades could turn into not only a strength but a truly elite group. We already have quite a few very good skill players.

Don't you think a RB like Boom could do a lot of damage behind that line, hell, a decent QB could even look a lot better than he is behind that line.

It is never too early to hire a guy who can do the job. UK is not in a position to get elite coordinators but they can get very good ones. Assistant coaches move all the time. Getting a guaranteed 1-1.3 million dollar contract for two years work would interest a lot of guys.

I really hope Gran is the guy. I was all for Coley but am on the Gran train now. And yes, you hire him and get him acclimated as soon as possible. We waited way too long on Dawson last year and had to scramble recruiting. You announce Gran and all of these recruits get more time to do research and watch Cincy games to see what we will be doing. A lot of our current commits are familiar with Gran where Cincy offered them so I don't think we will lose anyone, but I think it's possible he brings a guy or two in that he was recruiting at Cincy.

You're pretty sure as in your opinion or are you an "insider"?
I am not an insider by any means. I know. Few guys who are close to the program, but I am definitely not an "insider". I say that because of what I heard from people I know and what I read on various media outlets.
