Hello Mike. Jerald Moore had numbers about like Clay's. I think Clay has the edge because he played more, but JM rushed for a lot of points and was very exciting to watch.

In spite of his flame out like a meteor, I can't forget the runs I saw Marcus Dupree make at Owen.
It was like a cartoon really, him trucking people at a very solid 4.3 speed, 230 pounds.
It was really unbelievable.

Dupree, quit the team and had he finished like the above backs did he would be the # 1 back all time. 22 you are correct very fun to watch.

2 Sims
3 little Joe
4 Pruitt
5 Q
6 Owens
7 Kenny King
8 Tillman
9.Murray
10 Clay

Discuss if you want.
Okay, I'll play...again:
1...Washington
2...Sims
3...Pruitt
4...McDonald
5...Gautt
6...Peterson (the most physically gifted but played what was the equivalent of only 2 seasons, a freshman year, half of a sophomore year, half of a junior year)
7...Murray
8....Owens-Vessels
9...Griffin
10..Tillman-Gaddis-Overstreet

Note: King was a fullback at OU

Also, only three of these players played on national championship teams.

De'Mond Parker was pretty good too. I looked at a list of all time rushing leaders at OU, and Jerald Moore is way down the list. Funny thing... If Samaje Perine has another 1,700 yds. season, he'll be between Demarco Murray and De'Mond Parker at the #7 spot. This is going to be a fun to watch.

I wouldn't have clay in top 10, maybe top 20. I know Parker played on bad teams but man he was awesome....

I'll never forget the game at home against Missouri. After running over their Linebacker, which required him to slow down at least a little bit, their corner was already in high pursuit and 5 yards behind with the momentum while Dupree was just starting to resume his run. Dupree ended up beating him by 10 yards in what amounted to about a 60 yard race, after their back even fell down because he just couldn't keep up and lost control. Turns out he was one of the better Big 8 track sprinters.

Carry on y'all...no hijack intended.
BTW, after you watch the Jerald Moore vid, there will be a group of four, one is Joe Washington.

It's very fun also.
Courtesy, 22.

Dupree had all world talent and physical gift but was as lazy as a used car salesman. If he had a great work ethic, people would still be talking about him.

Oh, quite right.
If his drive, desire and goals had equaled his talent and ability, he'd have eclipsed Jim Brown, Walter Payton and all the other greats synonymous with legends as RBs.

Just sad really.

Well if the Sec Sec folks are still talking about him that says a lot...

We've had a few boys since MD that have surpassed his numbers in their freshman year.

You're right. He was something to behold in real time at a game.
Saw him hurtle some tallish linebackers and safeties many times.

I read a piece a long time ago where they had interviewed his granny who raised him.
She said, and I quote, "He ran all the time. He couldn't walk like us, if he was moving at all he was running".

Paraphrased of course.

I think there was a gap in the time Joe was there. Would have been fun to see him play against Forrest Gump and Bama...

Pretty solid list except for Clay. I think strong consideration would have to be given to Gaddis, Dupree (yes I know), Stanley Wilson, Billy Vessels, and Demond Parker

My list only includes guys I've seen play so I'm sure I'm not giving due credit to guys like McDonald and Vessels.

1. Sims
2. Peterson
3. Dupree (would've been first if he hadn't been an idiot)
4. Washington
5. Owens
6. Q
7. Gaddis (would've been higher if not for the knee injury)
8. Murray
9. Parker
10. King/Overstreet

What about Buster Rhymes? I was fairly young during his playing days but seems like I recall him being pretty good. Did he share time between RB and receiver?

Rhymes was an electric player but he did spend a lot of time at WR IIRC. Major oversight on my part in that I meant to put Greg Pruitt in at #3 which would, obviously, bump everyone below that down a notch.

Rhymes was 'all-american' and a 1st Round Pick and was drafted as a wide-receiver by the Vikings, according to wiki. There he played for two years then played Canadian football for 2 years and flamed out, literally.

I have to give it up to Buster for one good deed...read on.

Wasn't it Rhymes that broke that run against Nebraska for a TD and the win when the Husker kid cried out..."Oh no, they're going to do it to us again!"

I think this is correct if memory serves.

On further review he was convicted in 2004 of carjacking, then later of possession of crack so, he didn't mature gracefully at all.

Clay was a winner and run that way every play. He broke tackle after tackle to win Belam in 2013, and played this way every single game. If this year's Sooners play with the same heart and winning mind as B. Clay we will see # 8. Yes he is one of the top 10 backs all time. Period!

Mike I couldn't disagree more, but of course I respect your opinion. Personally, I can think of probably 20 other backs that were as good or better than Clay. This obviously doesn't take away from Clay's contributions.

I think clay could possibly be top 20 but not top 10.....he was a solid back however. In no particular order I would have Dupree, Peterson, Murray, Parker, sims, Owens, little Joe, Griffin, Patrick Collins perhaps? Tillman? Moore? Will perine rewrite the record books at ou? Good topic

That's all I got. You guy's spew out the same thing on Brennan Clay...

Live with it..............Musketeers.................
Ha...........you get mad when we don't agree that Clay is a top 10 all time back at OU? I guarantee that if you think that then you are in the vast minority. Even on this board, I bet there are very few that would consider Brennan Clay to be in that category.

K2c you are a poster with limited sports knowledge and you provide the occasional funny GIF. Other than that, you contribute little to nothing to the board. I'm not a big fan of using the ignore feature but you leave me no choice. Have a good one
