I happened to look at the On3 rankings of the top 100 high school teams and was shocked to count no teams in Ohio or Pennsylvania were listed, one team from New Jersey was listed, and two teams were from Maryland. The vast majority of teams were in the south, southwest and California. The implications for recruiting are obvious.

Top 100 HS

Whoops...should have looked at 50-100. I only saw the top 50. So throw in 1 in PA, 1 in OH and 1 more in MD and it is still a thin looking group.

Neshaminy and Pennsbury back in the day were formidable.

Very familiar with Southlake Carroll ( my 3 kids attended) excellent sports and academics. Duncanville also in DFW….loaded with D1 talent. North Texas has some of the best HS. football in the US. Friday nights are loaded with crowded Stadiums and high level talent. Fun to watch….etc

#94 on the list is Maria Stein Marion Local. They just set the number of wins in a row record for Ohio at 59.
Played for the conference championship Friday and won 35-0.
During this stretch, they won 3 straight state titles. Backups and freshman get most second half snaps.
School is in the smallest division in Ohio, meaning they likely have 40ish kids per grade. Figure 20 boys per grade.
They are the #1 seed for playoffs and there were 3 teams that opted out of the playoffs so they wouldn’t have to play them. The team that accepted the game is in their league and was beaten by Marion Local 66-0 three weeks ago.
The conference is incredible. All schools within 20 miles of each other. A few years back, the conference had the D-7 through D-4 state champions.

I remember when St. Louis in Honolulu was unbeatable.

Long Beach Poly has had a number of good teams.

Moeller was a powerhouse as well. Not sure if they still are. 178-23-2 under Gerry Faust.

Population is shifting with more people moving and living in the south. Also a large factor now is schools/academy like IMG taking top kids from all over the country. PA schools have had a number of kids go to these schools.

Sadly, the case with the Pittsburgh area. Foundries and mills closed, then families moved. Not to say the football is bad there now, just sign of the times.

I remember that wagon the suburban Philly area had during the 1990s to early 2000s! Man, PIAA went through there and a lot of those schools were nationally ranked too!

I remember when in the year 2000 CB West went down to Disney World in Florida and just spanked that team. Believe that game was on ESPN. Kids from that Florida team said they never saw kids so big, strong and fast. Think it was 31-0 at halftime or some blowout score.

Altoona High....my Alma mater.
I went to the Altoona campus for my first 2 years ('83-'85). I loved that town, and more importantly the people. I fell hard for a BG girl and we dated for 2 years. Once I joined a fraternity once I started at main campus that was the end of that. I am still close with several people from Altoona, many of whom still live there.

These rankings are nothing but a poor SWAG. I look at the Ohio rankings from multiple sources and they are all over the place with one school at 5-5 ranked in the top 10 on one of the services. These rankings are worse than the pre season college rankings.

The shift in population from Northern to Southern states is not only reflected in high school sports, but also in manufacturing, jobs growth etc. etc.

No doubt! Coach Mike Petine had a serious run!
