In no order

Major League
ET
Vacation
Return of the Jedi (Empire was better, but barely an 80s film)
Revenge of the Nerds

Obviously not a comprehensive list, just some that popped in my head.

Short Circuit too. Wasn't old enough for the John Hughes stuff.

Even though i posted off the cuff...I am thoroughly ashamed that i left Stripes off of my list.

I hereby self-impose a 3 minute ban on myself from posting for said infraction.

Here is another, a made-for-TV movie, which generated quite a bit of discussion in the USA way back when: "The Day After".

For extra credit, Google "Able Archer 83" for some background on how close we came to the proverbial abyss. I was there. Scary, scary ****. I finally viewed the movie in early '84 on AFN and personally felt disturbed by the implications then and now.

Hard to do for just one category.

Comedy
Fast Times at Ridgemont High (personal #1)

16 Candles
Vacation / Christmas Vacation
Ferris Buellers Day Off
Caddy Shack
Better Off Dead

others- Used Cars (sentimental), Beverly Hills Cop, Harlem Nights, Airplane, Do The Right Thing (not really a comedy).

Action / Adventure / Other

First Blood
Scarface
Full Metal Jacket
Mississippi Burning
The Outsiders (my Favorite)

Others- Purple Rain, Risky Business, Colors, The Killing Fields, Breakfast Club, Rain Man, Color of Money, Elephant Man.

Horror

Nightmare on Elm Street
Children of The Corn
Friday The 13th
The Shining
Texas Chainsaw Mas.

Others That if on, I will watch - Halloween 2, Pet Sematary, Cujo, Any Which Way You Can, To Live and Die in LA, The Karate Kid, The Great Outdoors, Uncle Buck, The Naked Gun (missed this one, but was not redoing list), Stripes, History of the World Part 1, Police Academy, Dirty Dancing, Blue Lagoon (only because as a 12 year old I beat it like it owed me money to Brooke Shields swimming naked). GD still can picture her, Number 1 crush as a pre-teen. (Christie Brinkley and Farrah Fawcett a close 2nd) I am sure I left out dozens of movies, 80's was the ****.

Can't believe we are 20 posts in and no one has mentioned The Burbs, one of my favorites.

That is 1991 so it didn't make the cut. If it was in the 80s, that is top 5 for sure.

Good stuff.

My favorite scene in the trailer is after the hacking scene with the Nintendo glove, he says "Sent me back to the GD viking age." Then while looking at this viking chick, he goes "Look. I'm a cop from the future."

Glad to see the love for Used Cars. Only 2 I haven't seen on anyone's list so far is Porkys and A Christmas Story.

Just now saw Porkys on someone's list, missed it the first time. Two Cold War classics from the '80s are Red Dawn and Gotcha!

GD classic, one of the most underrated movies ever.

Roy L Fuchs walks up to his brothers car lot, guy shovels mud on his feet.

Roy L. Fuchs "aren't you a little bit too big to be playing in the touching mud ?"

Roy L Fuchs "I need to talk to my bother."

Kurt R. "well you will have to talk loud, he is in Miami."

Roy L Fuchs "Miami ???"

Kurt R "yeah, Miami Beach, "

Roy L Fuchs "Miami Beach ?"

Kurt R. "yeah Miami Beach, you know, down in Florida."

Roy L Fuchs "I know where the *uck Miami Beach is."
