Oh lord... I hope they don't ruin it. My dad was a bad *** navy pilot and went to top gun. He flew a4s and f4s and was a trainer in t38s...the a4 obviously played a big role in the movie. The F5 played the role of the Mig. A t38 is just a two-seat version of an F5. I grew up around these Planes, and knew everything about them... so the movie was extra special to me at that age. I thought the original rumor was they were going to use an F-22. Guess that's not the case

The original blew me away as a 15 or 16 year old seeing it in the theatre. So I'll always be nostalgic about anything related to it.

And, of course, I won't miss this one.

To be honest with you, he didn't talk that much about it. His mother was Japanese, and they can be a quiet group of people. I obviously heard a few stories. His best friend in the Navy, Hank the crank, crashed is plane into a tower and died. He also was the only person to evade capture in some sort of Survival game where they basically throw you out in the snow in your underwear and send a group of people out to find you. He used to take joy in making the trainees faint in the backseat of the t38 pulling maneuvers. Mostly, he was pretty quiet about it though. He got out of the Navy as quickly as possible and became a commercial pilot but I just I loved everything about it when I was young. I used to be able to identify planes by the sound of them flying over without even looking. I grew up in Jacksonville, so I had plenty of practice

Cruise just has that movie star quality. He can do dumb things in real life (and he does) but he keeps delivering. He never phones in a performance. Just amazing.
