The mt Rushmore talk by Williams got me thinking who are the undisputed top ten programs in college basketball right now.
- Kentucky, Kansas, duke, UCONN, UNC, Michigan state, Gonzaga, and the last three spots to me a lot of arguments can be had

I’ll still put UK in as of now if we are talking “recent history”. But we can’t go much longer without a 1 seed or final four.

Kansas
Uconn
Duke
UNC
UCLA
Gonzaga
Michigan State
Villanova
Kentucky

Those are my top 9, not in any order.

Can’t figure out who else to put in.

I still consider UConn the same level as Indiana. The others have 60 plus years of history and showing up at the end
They are probably 6th

UK is number 1 by a mile. Except to the UConn fans here.

There's several that could claim number 2. But who cares? Other than the few UConn fans that post here.

I know they flame out in the tourney but they did win one, so is Virginia a choice maybe

I love these guys that pick a date (talking about TV last night 1999) and say UCONN has 5 titles and then the rest. Well lets go back to 95 and UK has 3 titles and so forth. Heck lets go back to 38 when it all started. UCLA has a 12 year span then there is UK and everyone else is under us.

KENTUCKY
UNC
IU
UCONN
DUKE
and so forth.

If you want to look at blue blood (tradition) it will be the same guys we have always discussed.

As far as since 2019 we are down. Not the first time in our history we are down. 1958 through 1978. We had our chances but we did not do it.

One of 2 things will happen this year, more of the same or Cal will make some changes and we will be better. No matter until we get some young mind to run our program we will be this way. We need new blood. All we can do for now is hope that CAL will make the changes necessary to be better next year. We will know by the coaching changes and who he gets in the portal or who he can get to come back. Either way we will know before the trip to Canada what we will be.

Honestly, I can't see UK as Top Ten at this point. As bad as some fans want to believe it, it's just not true. UK's past is no substitute for our current position or status. This program is on life support "right now" and isn't Top Ten. IMO

We’re still top ten, we are nowhere near where Kentucky should be but Kentucky is still top ten

We have the 2nd most title and the 2nd most wins. We also have the highest winning percentage. How in the world is that NOT Top 10.

Yes our last three years have been AWFUL. But we will see what this incoming class can do in spite of Cal, and then at year's end we're ditching him.

Recency bias is ******** and always will be.

It’s a discussion for sure but they have the title, any team in that slot is going to have flaws
Yeah, that's a big flaw. And they choked early yet again. They are closer to Purdue in my book.

They have one lone title and it took some.....interesting circumstances for them to get it.

Strange, I've noticed that so many of these programs started playing Basketball in the early 1900's. So with the NCAA Title obsession in the media today and some fanbases, if we can just gently push that aside for a second, looking past a 5 season window for UConn, an 8 season window for Kentucky, a 6 season window for Unc-chapel hill branch, a 5 season window for Duke, a 4 season window for Kansas what else do we look at?

Final Fours minus Title years:

Kentucky-9
Kansas 12
Duke-12
Unc-15
UConn- 1

So that's where we segue next and we still haven't looked at Championship game appearances, tournament victories, all-time wins.

Congrats to the Huskies on an awesome achievement but I think some calm perspective is needed on this issue. Those other schools have been contenders much longer than Connecticut and they were contenders more than Connecticut during this last 25 years. (15 times in that 25 year "UConn Reign", either they did not make the tournament or did not get past the first weekend. Of the remaining 10 times, they went to six FF'S and won 5.) 5-0 in the Final is tremendous and they should enjoy it but the sports media is really blinded today.

Perspective....

Maybe you're right ... I just don't think UK could beat anyone today in the Top 10. I mean, I certainly can't remember UK beating anyone of any significance recently. I'm gonna take your advice and ... "not worry about it".

I think the question was Top Ten "today". We are historically, a Top 10 program, but if you look at UK today, I don't see anything coming close to Top 10. The only thing that matters is the game that's played on the court ... this year ... today. Today UK is sucking on the fumes from yesteryear and can't pass muster as a Top 10 team. So many are trying to live off the glory of days long gone. UK, today, must be judged for who and what it is now, not yesterday. Teams won't roll over because of past history. Today, they just beat our *** and UK looks bad while they do it. That ain't Top 10. JMO.

True, look at UConn four of their five titles hve been extremely lucky and the bracket opened up every damn time, they capitalized but still, I wish Kentucky had UConn’s March luck

Next year might be fun to watch and take our attention off Cal's **** show but that class will be gone once again and it all starts all over again. This poor sick man has got to go ... b/c we all just want our program back and we can worry about who the next coach is ... Coach Anyone, at this point, works for me.

The last three years have been pretty bad for UK. I don’t think I’d put us up in the top 10 for that stretch, but we’re still a top program. I think UK will remain in a deep sleep until Cal is gone.

I agree, but it all depends on your metrics. If you're talking about on-court success and post-season runs, then no way is UK in the Top 10. But if you're talking about brand recognition, recruiting, NIL, etc - then yes, absolutely is still a Top 10 (Top 5 actually, maybe Top 3) program.

But as far as winning your conference, winning conference tournament, advancing in the NCAAT - Kentucky is NOT a top 10 program right now. If you eliminate your personal bias and blue shades, I don't see how you can look at UK right now as a Top 10 program - based on the on-court performance as of the last few years.

UK right now is closer to an Illinois, Texas Tech, or Wisconsin

I’m convinced this is his last year no matter what, so I’m hoping for a fun year but with recent performance not expecting it

Wouldn't it nice if all that came true ... it would make for an exciting year regardless of how well the team does on the court with the prospect of Cal being gone.

UK is not a top ten at this point.....not based on the past five years or even 10 years.
