Total individual losses: Over-Under 30

Last season, Penn State wrestlers that competed in the post season had a combined 25 losses ...

With a new crop of talent entering ... I'll set the over/under at 30 combined for the wrestlers that compete in the post season.

Will this group be Over/Under 30 combined losses?

0 < 125+133+149+157+165+174+184+197 < 8. There is a pretty good chance we will have 4 or 5 undefeated wrestlers.

There is a little more uncertainty around 141 and Hwt, but the team will be under 30, probably under 20.

I wondered last year mid season if the team would have more losses in March than all season

I don't see Blaze and PJ with 3 each, even as true freshmen. It not unrealistic either could run the table, but most of our greats have an aberration or two early on. I would put money on the under 4 combined, this under 20 total

you are probably correct. You never know but I feel like i agree on PJ. 133 is stacked however and I feel like 3 for blaze is not unrealistic and still places him very high on the podium as a freshman. That leaves him on a Nolf, Nickal, Ruth type of trajectory.... Not too bad!

Cole will have had a hell of a season if he suffers only 5 losses. He is scheduled to face five of Intermat's top seven heavies in duals, then he'll likely face a few of them again at tournament time.

Nagao also has a tough dual season ahead. He faces Intermat's #s 1, 2, 3, 9, and 10 wrestlers before March.

When you have to factor in Big 10s & NCAAs:
125 - 0
133 - 4
141 - 7
149 - 1
157 - 4
165 - 0
174 - 0
184 - 4
197 - 0
285 - 8

I'll add one more for 125, 165, 174, 197 and one more from the other weights - something weird will happen. 30 looks like a really good number.

yeah.... thats what I am saying.... you have Nagao and Cole accounting for 15 of 28 loses...... and that is very probable.... but... if someone told me Nagao was going to go 27-4 on the year - I could easily believe that too! You have Blaze for 4 loses and in that weight class... that is a very very good year... but its Marcus Blaze... and if he went 29-2 on the year... I would not be shocked. Same with PJ

Duke faces 1,5,7,8,9 during the regular season and then probably 3 of 1,7,8,9 again during Big10s. Then they’re in Shapiro to the mix.

A regular season where he drops one to Taylor and, let’s say Kannon Webster as a true freshman, runner up at B10s and NCAA runnerup would get you 4 losses. Flip the regular season loss to NCAA 4th and you get the same.

Can you tell me the last time a PSU true freshman won NCAAs? Zain 5th, Nolf RS then 2nd, Taylor RS then 2nd, Nickal then 2nd, Ruth RS then 3rd, Brooks DNC, Starocci RS, Lilledahl 3rd, Barr RS then 2nd.

I am thinking the true freshman senior US team member might be the first. Of course until reality hits I tend to always think we r going to have 10 undefeated national champs.

I would take Kasak to run the table this year, and if Duke is really better than Kasak, I would expect the same. Shapiro does worry me. He is a wildcard. Really don't see Taylor being a problem.

You have to look at it differently. Don't think 4 wrestlers.... Hypothetically, he could lose to Antrel Taylor.... Duke will face Taylor in a dual, at big 10s and in the NCAAs ! That hypothetically could be three loses there. I don't think Antrel will beat PJ (and definitely not 3x) but you get how that could make 4 loses very plausible. Plus 57 has some very good wrestlers beyond PJ and Antrel.... Zerbran, Arrington, Cardenas, Cannon, Jordan Williams. Pj will face several of them more than 1x this year... Heck he will kick it off vs a tough Hipolito tonight. ill be honest... i think PJ can beat any and all of them but even 5x champ Carter lost to Donnell Washington and took a little bit to find his footing

Will this group be Over/Under 30 combined losses?
Is the question:
a) How many losses for the starters going into the post season (Big Tens) or
b) How many losses for the starters going into the NCAA Tourn or
c) How many losses for the starters after the NCAAs?

guess:
a = less than 20
b= 20 - 25
c = less than 30

This is wild to say with the all time greats that have come through this program but I truly believe that Duke and Blaze are on a different especially as true freshman. Zain, Nolf, and Nickal were incredible but none had the accomplishments that PJ and Marcus have coming in
