Toyota Tundra

Anyone got any feedback on theirs? About to buy one for 4K (2000 SR5 160K miles in good shape for 15 yrs old) but I don't know much about them. Mostly only use it to haul small loads of lumber to job sites when need be and will not be pulling anything though according to what I've read it's capable.

I've heard a lot of common things that go bad with dodge, ford, and chevy but do not know much about Toyota as a truck product.

I can only speak about my Toyota's. I have a 2011 Tacoma 4x4, love the truck. Before that, I had one with a gazillion miles on it, never any major issues. I was a lifelong Ford truck man, then I got a Toyota, will probably drive nothing but Toyota's. The Tundra of that era should have a 4.7 that's a very smooth motor - best of luck.

id be pretty wary of toyotas. not much info out there about the product, and what little there is doesnt seem to positive. certainly not known for their reliability.

When looking at any vehicle that's >15 yrs old and greater than 150,000 miles it's always buyer beware. Doesn't mean that you shouldn't buy it but you should have realistic expectations. Toyota is known for good reliability in general but something that old or high mileage anything can happen at any time.

Though if you're looking at a 2nd vehicle to use occasionally at a job site it's likely a good buy. Mileage is very low for the age. Though with the age you may want to replace hoses, belts, etc.....routine stuff.

I have a 2008 Tundra with 86k miles on it. It also has the 4.7 V8. Truck is a great truck for what I use it for. My only issue with it is that due to the smaller 4.7 liter V8, it drinks more gas where the engine has to work harder to pull the weight of the truck. I get in the neighborhood of 13 mpg on it.

I have had 2 Tacoma's, a 1st Gen Tundra (2006 4.7L) and a 2nd Gen (2008 5.7L). I have loved all of them. The 2nd Gen is really heavy and wears brakes out like nobody's business, but other than that I love it. The 06 I had was probably my overall favorite truck. I sold it because I needed something a bit bigger, but I loved the size and how well it drove. Plenty of power for the body size/weight. The only complaint I have ever had with Toyota's is that the trim seems to fall apart after a while. Inside and outside trim work just never stays tight, tends to make some noise. Pretty minor complaint overall but thought I would share.

I think this is part of Toyota's genius throughout the yrs. My immediate family has had plenty of Toys, and this is one recurrent theme. The interior is lackluster. The coloring inside and out are often blah. The interior materials are often quite cheap and will break down with time. But I think this is by design. The money and engineering are spent more on the parts that matter. Hence, it leads to better build quality.

My neighbor has a Ford F-250 with 320,000 on it and never been in the motor. Proper maintanence is the key. That said anything 12 years or older will have things break, due to age and mileage.

Yes, I'm a builder. Truck has had a lot of wear and tear, so it's not your typical 160k on the engine.

I'm getting this in hopes of finding one with mileage but low wear and tear because I got to run small loads to job sites when framers etc need extra 2x10 because they used the ones I sent for something else and I try to keep guys working instead of making them wait a day or 2.
