I was watching the 96 ESPN Fiesta Bowl post game show on YouTube last night and they were interviewing Tommie Frazier he was at the booth or whatever it's called and Craig James asked Tommie Frazier what Nebraska tradition was. Tommy responded with three words "Aggressive Powerful Football" nuff said. Frost knows exactly what Nebraska tradition is, and it will be reinstilled back in this program once again. It will take time folks, but it happen again. Personally I'm looking forward to making The Ohio St our little biotch, but 1st we have to make Wisky and the Chokeyes in our own division our b**** It will happen, but will take time. Look at it this way, Frost is the last Bastion of the Old Guard of the Glory Days. The nasty attitude that those teams had along with the great talent and atletisicm. if there is any semblance of what was put back into this program, not one team in this conference is safe. Think about this, Michigan back then thought that they could've taken us but would've been another blowout victory from us. At that time, The Big Ten or should I say The Weak 10 was a doormat conference where teams thought they were way better than they actually were and it wasn't even close. Those Husker teams back then had the attitude was we're going to kick your *** and humiliate you and there's not a damn thing you can do about it because you're not good enough to do anything about it, so much is our offense of lineman were telling opposing defenses what we were going to run and daring them to try and stop it. We all saw how that worked out, and because of that attitude one thing I don't think a lot of people realized was what it turned out to be was the bigger teams we were playing the bigger the blowout. Let that sink in, it's all about nasty aggressive powerful football and attitude! GO BIG RED!!!

In one of the 90's highlight tapes there's a scene with our coaches in the film room actually laughing at a big 10 opponent, (OSU) and commenting, "why would they do this"

If you are looking for the glory days of in your face power football, you may want to look elsewhere. This spread attack, while it can have some power to it, is a finesse, speed and strategic offense made to keep the opposition off balance.

The D is another story and it appears it will be one of attacking. If it even approaches the Husker D's of the glory days I would be pleased. You just don't see that much of it anymore and I think it is because the spread attacks have caused that.

Ummmmmm this isn’t anything earth shattering with all do respect. You saw the OSU game, correct. Guys who weigh 165 and run a 4.4 vs OSU who weigh 200 lb and run 4.3. That’s not changing anytime soon. Recruiting that speed to Neb is going to be a tough lift.

Wrong.

People wanna rush to be the first to claim nebraska under frost wont be anything like or resemble nebraskas power football of the glory years. This is as simplistic as thinking we will run the power I set.

Ask yourselves why nebraskas teams were so powerful. Watch some old games, and what jumps out? How frickin FAST we play off the ball. How fast and quick our plays develop. How fast our line comes off the ball, or the ability of a pulling guard to sprint out to the edge and make a block. Our line was the fastest in football, and it in turn made them the most powerful or at least appear so.
Our run plays were quick hitters to the hole unless it was a counter. Our options were really freaky fast unless it was a G/O or belly and even those were fast aside from the qb progression patience. How did we school the warren sapps? With speed.
Everyhing was done extremely fast. The players knew their assignments and were able to play them with confidence which equals maximum effort and speed.
Watch the texas A and M title game in frosts senior year and watch the pass game, which was excellent as usual. Even our pass plays are very quick and utilize play or option action and quick hitting routes. This is similar to what UCF did this year except ucf used more bubbles.

Boyds entire premise was that speed equals power, and power equals speed. Everyone else said weightlifting makes you slow. Boyd saw the err in that thinking. Nebraska power was really the development of nebraska speed. Speed and power are the same thing.

The best teams dont simply have the most guys under 4.6, they have the most guys who can play as fast as they can because thats their team style and how they practice and prepare.

We wont be in the power I, sure. But we will be powerful. And we will know because we will play fast.

OK? Not sure what games/team you were watching. There is quick, there is fast and there is relentless. When did we have the fastest line in football and how was that measured?

Two eyes and a brain will tell you our offensive line played faster than other teams. Which is what matters, right?

Watch old oklahoma run their veer option offense back in the 70s too. Holy cow did they play fast.

The point is that nebraska was fast, and played very fast, especially in our best years.
Frosts offense is all about playing fast.
Just because one offense has a fb doesnt make it any different. It will be very similar.

OK, I did just what you said and OU was running the wishbone, not the veer. I also looked up the blocking schemes for the wishbone and there is very little pulling. That is as I recall when we played HS teams that ran the bone as well when I was an assistant coach.

So I guess my two eyes and brain are just fine thank you. Nebraska intentionally slowed the play down to allow for backside pulling, reverse pivot with a hesitation, misdirection, counter trey, etc. Nebraska linemen were aggressive and relentless and mostly under control when they came down the line and around the corner. Fast has little to do with it but execution and body control did.

Wishbone uses veer principles. Sorry for formation differences.
Yeah i mentioned that some option plays included some hesitation by backs for line play but the play itself includes the main players playing extremely fast.
I dont know why this is so hard for you to understand. Nebraska did what it needed to do very fast. Hesitations were all calculated and the real meat of the play was developing at a pace the defense couldnt keep up with.
I guess I dont know how you can watch nebraska of old and say they werent faster than their opponents. Agree to disagree.

Nebraska got faster in the skill positions over time, but that was not always the case. They had to just to keep up with the Miami, Florida, Oklahoma, and Tennessee teams of the day. Your premise is just far too simple - they were fast, faster than everyone else. Simply not true. We had some very average, at best, linebackers and DB's in the day that were not speed merchants. They were able to make up for some of that with technique, good balance and anticipation (commonly called good coaching). It would be ridiculous to say that Nebraska was just "faster" than everyone else. Somehow Nebraska cornered the market on speed in college football and no one could keep up or match it's speed. Keep thinking there is a simple formula, obviously you have not done or been around football coaching. Good day

As far as I'm concerned we can run the option, or the veer, or the wishbone, or the power I, or the Oregon Spread, or the fun and gun. We can play powerful football or finesse football. We can be a huge methodical team or a bruising power team...I don't really care.

I just want us to win again. Far too many Nebraska fans are worried about HOW we win instead of IF we win.

I never said nebraska was faster than everyone.
They PLAYED faster. Which is what matters. You didnt read my post and decided to put your own intentions to my words. And we werent even talking defense, nice change there.
You have been exposed and are swimming in circles.
Dont question my history...and just because you may have coached doesnt mean you were a good one nor does it have anything to do with this conversation.
Nebraska played faster than their opponents, period.

issues, but I see a lot of ridiculous spelling and grammar errors. I assume most of us are older than 12. I’m not the grammar police, but I know how to not look like an idiot. Especially with spellcheck...even when I’ve been drinking. Like, right now...and I’m talking straight tequila. Clean it up fellas.

I was watching Running for his Life - the LP story the other night. I swear I heard LP comment when TO and one of the S&C coaches came to visit how weak the team had become.

And you wanna take that to mean 40 times and measurables that dont matter. Our o line plast as hell and came off the ball fast as hell.

I love the pic of our O line with every one of them with the same foot lifted at the same height and turning in the same direction on the snap of the ball. Our line did play fast and they were explosive off the ball. I don't care what their 40 times were, that first step was magic and that helps you win the LOS.

Wow. Just wow. Are integrity, hard work, toughness and respect exclusive to the Power I? Because those are the type of things that quote is about. Certainly not what offense we are running. It's pretty clear who does not get it.

Hahaha. Okay. Well anyone that disagrees with you is apparently an *** and and a "potato" who works in fast food. Thanks for bringing my family into this though. Appreciate that.

Obviously there are things that matter outside winning games. If you read my original post in context it's pretty clear that I was saying that it doesn't matter what kind of system we run as long as we win. I didn't say we shouldn't uphold the morals and values that make Nebraska great. Keep on keeping on though my friend.
