With seasons having recently ended or about to end, the number of transfers is about to explode and I’m sure we’ll see many names that we think Collins should pursue. So maybe this will be the start of a long, evolving thread. I see what I think is the first name in the portal who had an NU offer out of high school: Riley Battin, a 6’9” forward from Utah.

As they should, the coaches seem to work pretty secretly with the portal. I don’t remember seeing anything about our two most recent transfers (Audige and Williams) before their commitments were announced.

Some kid from Princeton in the portal was saying today he already heard from 20 schools. It's on baby

Battin really regressed this year from the previous 3, lost his starting spot in the back half of the conference season on a really terrible Utah team. Not sure he will help us out at all. He's a significantly worse version of Robbie Beran.

Llewellyn averaged 15.8 points on 45.1% shooting and 39.6% on 3-pointers. 6'3 four-star recruit coming out of high school in Virginia.

Wright started all 29 games and averaged 14.6 points, a team-best 6.9 rebounds and shot 50.6% from the field and 40% from 3.

Per 247 NU is in contact with Llewellyn

Here's how CC saves his job through the portal:
1 PF
1 tall wing
1 PG

All very experienced players.

We have deficiencies in those positions and extreme experience in another program, with a proper coach, might help saving CC from his own ineptitude.

Following in the footsteps of the best transfer of the Collins era, I suggest NU finds its PG on the east coast lacrosse fields, its wing from among the tight ends in the Jayhawk Conference , and its post player lining up as a middle blocker somewhere.

We know what we have in Beran... A guy who was well-below average 2 years ago, but upped his game to be less below average this past season. His ceiling is average for the Big Ten.

Young has been slightly above average for 2 seasons. Did not show a lot of improvement this past year, but he had to be frustrated with how he was misused.

Nicholson will be productive off the bench if he sticks around.

Buie was above average this past season, improved from the previous year, when he was average.

So we need a PF to back up Beran or take his starting job. Odds of Collins doing that are remote, obviously.
We also really need somebody who can handle the basketball and is willing to pass it (other than Buie).

Otherwise its Roper, Berry, Simmons, Barnhizer and Audige competing for the shooting guard and small forward roles. Basically Young, Buie and Beran in 3 positions, with all of our recent recruits competing for 2 spots.

In the hands of a capable coach we would be fine with one more frontcourt player. Even better with the additions you pointed out.

In the hands of Collins, I will stick with the PG/tall wing/PF, all very experienced. Nothing else gives me hope Collins can have a decent season.

Well its a virtual certainty that if we can't find a backup for Beran on the transfer wire, Collins will talk about how great he expects Luke Hunger to be, that he should be able to step in right away.

That way he can blame the player for not living up to expectations.

If he progresses as he did last year, he is on the rise to being a star.
1) Stats are too good for NW to be in the mix at this point, he'll get plenty of contact from ambitious teams
2) We have 300 short wings
I posted on the Rock, but basically Bamisile is Ryan Taylor part 2 based on his stats this season. He's a volume-scorer, not particularly efficient, and turned the ball over a lot when playing against Big 10-level teams. I don't think he would add to our team.

2 ppg scorer in the ACC and was recruited over when the new guy brought in talent from Wofford. (Good talent, as Va Tech is a good team.)

Let’s find Williams College’s best shooter and see if he’s the next Duncan Robinson.

Transfer portal is cute, but it’s not the answer.

(We’re dancing with the ones we brung, in the immortal words of Coach Walker. And we brung Boo and Chase and Young*.)

*I hope they’re still into us.

I agree. But even with those issues, we are in no position to even being considered.

Ryan Taylor has good numbers and came. But we were a team hoping to sneak into the tournament. We still had Pardon and Law. We could sell that story. Today, no higher profile transfer is going to give us a serious look.

Next years team need 1 or maybe even 2 front court players that can play defense! Even if they miraculously keep everyone, the team will not be a potential tourney team without that.
