He is the perfect example of why coaches need time to identify, recruit and develop talent. Early on there were people saying he was overrated and he needed to go. Look at what having a plan and some patience can do. Our OL has gone from being a problem to a strength in 4 years.

Great job Coach Traut!

I wouldn't call it a strength quite yet. PSU's OL has improved from piss poor (D) to better than average (B).

Trautwein has improved the pass protection, but still can't open holes for the RB's against the opposing DT's. It might not be him or the players....it might be fruitcake Franklin's offensive scheme.

Let’s look at results. How well are we running the ball ??
( ftr they draft people based on measurables not how they are coached)

I still think we need better as a coach. Though I do think he’s improved from yr 1-2
I think some of it is the scheme. It seems to be similar results no matter who the OL coach is.

Traut has done a good job and definitely improved upon his predecessor.

It’s unfortunate the run game has been hampered by a horrible offense coordinator (since fired by Franklin) and sub par WR talent which has enabled opposing defenses to constantly stack the box with eight defenders.

If they stack the box w 8 why do we run it?

curious how OL-recruited by Traut develop this and next year. And clearly vs top football teams if there is no threat of the pass running game will suffer. In the bowl game we ran the bowl well until Ole Miss adjusted-knowing our passing game was weak. Short passes with yards after the catch can set up running game.

Looking at the stats I was kind of shocked we led the B1G in rushing. I agree that the OL is improving. I guess if we didn't have the rushing yards we wouldn't have been 10-2 heading into the bowl game because the passing game seems to be stagnant. However, I guess I need to see the game by game stat because the B1G was down this year and the OOC teams were well you know. I think our OL can block, it is whatever scheme Franklin is making them use that is the problem. Also, seems like holes are there sometimes but our RBs don't have that breakaway speed that those Mich RBs displayed last night. Didn't some fat DL run down one of our guys in the Mich game?

Yeah, more of the constant stream of "It's Franklin's fault when we lose - but he gets ZERO credit when we win." vitriol. Gotta love how the haters tell us they hate Franklin without saying outright they hate Franklin. SMH.

If i am correct....Phil Trautwein's first year was 2020 during Covid....so he had to coach remotely in the beginning.... i feel it is better saying 2021 was his first year implementing his system. Since then the OL has seen improvement...and recruiting has really improved. Coach Traut is still a young man thus still developing his preferred coaching methods. Along with Coach Barnes i am pleased with our two line coaches....as they say the game is won or lost in the trenches

I will eat one crow if/when Franklin beats a top 5* team.

I will eat two crows if he beats a top 3* team.

I will eat three crows if he beats the #1* team.

* ranked as of the date of the game
