While we cant fix Pope's recruiting issues (whatever they may be).. i have to imagine JMI is going to have to change some of their sales pitch, and id imagine plenty of UK folks have already approached them on this. Have to believe they are going to revamp how they do things noe that this all came to light.. right?

Pope just went on live TV and spouted off about how positive the coaching staff feels about recruiting, knowing that we were shrinking with Collins and Stokes. Is it getting to the point where we can't trust what he says?

I'm sad for this whole thing because I really liked Mark and his love for the program, but he's clearly in over his head. 2 years was more than enough time to get this program back with the portal and with our resources and he couldn't do it.

It's time for a change.

Did I see the Pope is looking to add a general manager type role to UK or am I dreaming this?

Another UK 1st…

The 1st school in history, IN ANY SPORT, men’s or women’s, to have a head coach strike out on 27 top prospects in a row, in complete uninterrupted succession!

And, I have a sneaky suspicion that strike out streak is going to get additionally longer before it ends!

Woof🤯

I admit, I know basically nothing about the JMI contract details but how are we getting football commits? And other sports? Is it only affecting men’s basketball?
There’s “commits”, then there’s “big time commits”…

UK football ain’t sniffing those either!

By default, UK sports is going to get “recruits”, but getting “recruits” alone is a recipe for mediocrity.

If JMI is this bad for our recruiting, then will we have to get a Calipari-like recruiter to over come it? Not that I want Calipari back by any means, but wonder if an established recruiter might put us over the top in these deals. Pope is clearly struggling. Didn't expect his recruiting to be this bad at Kentucky.
There’s no recruiter alive, dead, or yet to be born, that can overcome the JMI brick wall!

UK /JMI either need to amend it completely, or UK football and basketball can totally forget about being relevant in either sport again!

And no Hurley, Pearl, Oats, et al, will ever give the job a first or second look, as long as it stays in place!

So replacing Pope with someone else, just to get a better recruiter, isn’t going to fix the main issue at hand.

I'm not advocating to not fix what needs to be fixed as far as JMI but I don't see how Pope was handcuffed in any way in the Collins recruitment.
Pope controls the rev share allocations 100%.
I seen where Collins signed a NIL deal with Crocs, a deal JMI would have no involvement in unless Collins wanted to incorporate the UK brand .
Idk if other schools are giving players free reign to use the schools brand in outside NIL deals or not.
That's a lot of small details to take in and I'm sure it varies from school to school.
I still think a lot of the problem is Pope wanting a "spread the wealth" approach to recruiting where he prioritizes depth.
It’s obviously something serious because the hold up was details in the contract UK presented him. The money we offered was fine, but something about JMI is stopping them dead in their tracks. Now we lost him. You don’t go from 100% he’s gonna commit and ready to sign in the early period to now he won’t even consider us without that JMI stuff being very very bad for us.

We AREN'T getting many football recruits either. Thinnest class we have had in a long time, ranked about mid 40s I think. There are systemic problems with the entire UK athletics department and we all know why.
Excitement over a new football coach might help next year until he gets hammered in SEC play next year. As with Cals departure Stoops didn't exactly leave the cupboard stocked. Until Mitch Narnhart and his entire regime is gone I see little hope for significant improvement.
As for Pope's recruiting pitch it obviously needs some adjustment as well.

I really can’t do anything but laugh at this point sky. You’re completely blinded when it comes to that deal. It’s as obvious as anything I’ve ever seen and agents have leaked to the media. You’re going to do this until the players begin to say it over time and some will. So that’s that. It’s easy to see, you’re just not wanting to see it. That contract is a major problem.

Because JMI isn’t the issue. Is it ideal, no, but money is money and it’s not why we aren’t getting recruits. It’s the “sales” pitch our staff is selling. You have to paint a vision for these recruits and that’s where we are missing them. Clueless fans latched into JMI thanks to KSR.

Is this why the agents are leaking the JMI deal is an issue? Which they clearly have been? It’s why the media is asking about that? Not about marks ability? You think they’ve heard things?

Did you also think Mitch was a “great AD?” Did you ever say that?

Not with JMI. Which is a shame because the UK football staff is killer.

What I don't understand is what revenue stream is JMI blocking from the players.
Supposedly UK/JMI has 200 NIL partners so to speak.
I don't understand why a recruit like Stokes would be fixated on anything to do with JMI.
He's only staying a year so the question should be " how much am I going to walk away with if I come and play a year at UK?
If you max out his NIL even under the JMI stipulations, you let rev share kick in the rest and it should be enough not to get outbid by another school.
UK basketball rev share % has to tops in the SEC and near the top of all CBB.
Maybe analytics get in the way of Pope's recruiting from a money perspective.

It aggravates me to no end that we cannot recruit a lick and I’m not entirely sure why? Is it pope? Don’t know, maybe. Is it JMi? Don’t know maybe. Could be both I guess. Could be anything. None of us know for sure and every day is a different story. All I know is the future is bleak and I don’t enjoy the games like I used to. I don’t look forward to watching. I feel like the soul of the program is dimming.
It is not your job to know why.

It is the Atheletic Director's job to know why. Barnart either does not know, or is choosing to do nothing about it.

Either are immediate, fireable offenses.

Chandler should be a bench guy. Moreno I hope comes back. And yes I want Jasper to come back too.

How much you want to make a bet that Pope saw BG play good once and offered him double the money for next year?

This is Pope's plan for now. Yes we need some retention but we also need to bring in 2-4 good players next year.

What’s up with the Vandy offer posting thing from Stokes and Collins? Feels coordinated/like a signal directed at UK, but then again I’m a nut.

That's assuming anyone from UK went to VMI and complained, which is doubtful considering that Mitch runs the UK athletic department like Sauron ran Mordor.

Our only hope is that Pope has the courage to stand up for his program, but if he does, it means he will be going against Mitch. I just don't see that happening. Pope seems like a guy who will respect the chain of command without fail, even when it means his own soldiers starve to death.

Bring back the core with the understanding that only Moreno and JJ should expect to be starters. Everyone else is a role player. Then go whole hog on Stokes and Collins. Get them both. Stop the bleeding, and go into next season like you're actually trying to win a title, instead of a bunch of lame tourists who are unaccustomed to winning at a high level.
