I know we have some experts here so help a guy out. Long time sedan driver looking for a pickup truck as my next ride. Need it for hauling stuff around in mainly, may buy a boat someday (big maybe) so might do some towing but nothing ridiculously heavy. I grew up in a Chevy town and I now live in Louisville which is a Ford town. I will probably look for a gently used truck (2 or 3 years old and 30k or less miles). I also want a crew cab. I still want a GMC or Chevy, but have read about transmission problems in the newer models. Let me know what you think.

A big boat is ridiculously heavy. Any gm that's at least 3/4 ton has a decent trans. The junk trans are the 4l60 that is only in 1/2 ton with a 5.3 engine.

My advise is to review the models that you are interested in on J D Powers, which evaluates vehicles based on ownership surveys.

Not a big boat, a big maybe. Meaning we might get a small boat, but probably not.

I looked for a GM truck just like the OP is describing for over a year. The crew cab is so popular that they are holding their value (for a vehicle) very well especially with gas prices being what they have been for a while now. I traveled to look at three or four trucks that were sold before I could get to the dealership during the time that I was looking.

I got "final" numbers on at least 10 different trucks and I ended up doing something I always said that I would never do and that's buy new. Factory rebates change monthly so I started watching those and ended up buying a GMC truck that had some pretty good rebates and 1.9% financing (not GM financing).

Same here ('15 Silverado). If you're looking for a crew cab, 4wd, full-size truck with low miles, you might end up with a big surprise. The 2013 version of my truck with 30K miles books for $2k less than what I paid for mine new. Combine that with the interest rates and warranties on new vehicles and the new ones don't look like such a bad deal these days. Like Boyd said, watch for the best factory rebates on the specific truck you're looking for.

Well, I got my truck. Drove a 2015 Silverado because I could not find the 13. Did not like the way it changed from 1st to 2nd at all. Even on my 6 mile test drive it had a long gap and then a lurch forward. There was a 2014 F-150 there also with the Ecoboost engine. My wife liked the looks of it so I drove it. Really smooth, really nice, surprisingly comfortable truck. Seemed much more effortless to drive even though it's a V6 instead if a V8, but the HP and torque are all the same. Anyway I got it and I love it. Should have it for many moons. Thanks for your help guys.

Most people who I see drive trucks are the biggest c*** sucking narcissists on the road. Little guys with small dicks. I see 10% truck drivers who are good people. 90% need to die. If you're a truck driver and angry, then quit running your goddamn truck like it's Formula One. We get it. Your "truck" can "git on it".

I once heard pickups, particularly lifted and modified ones, called "brodozers". Pretty accurate a lot of the time. I'm not lumping dgtatu01 in with them until he posts a pic with deer skull stickers on his windows or a huge exhaust stack through the bed. He probably hasn't even hacksawed the muffler off yet.

Perfect name for it.

Dgatu01 isn't one of those ********, he's too rich. He'll be one of those truck guys who'll spend $80K on a custom fit truck and then drive it 50 mph in the fast lane.

It's crazy how fast trends change. 10 years ago it was Priu' and 1990 carollas with 2848&3&2@28 stickers on it. Now it's all CUSTOM ROCK CRAWLING JEEPS!!! (With petite blonde driver) or CUSTOM ROCK HAULING TURBO MONSTER TRUCKS!!!' (with frat bro driver) each come with 473883 stickers and DONT FORGET THE LED LIGHT BAR!!!!' for when you go late night swamping.

And most of these trucks are all new and have to be 70k+. It's crazy how many are around here....all with that stupid LED light bar that will never be used. Who started that trend?

I have a Nissan Frontier and I love it

I have a 2006 Frontier I bought new and also love it. Drives great, very versatile and comfortable. Drove it to Florida on occasions and didn't feel beat up when I got there at all. The only thing I have had to do with it is replace both of the tailgate hinges that bend. IMO it was a defective design of the part.

I owned a 2002 back in the day. Great driving truck. But when gas prices shot up, i went kia Rio to drive to work. Frontier sucked down gas for a 6 cylinder.

I had a crew cab F-150 several years ago. It was before the eco-boost engines. I loved it. It was an extremely good vehicle. I have an escape now with the eco-boost 2.0 liter engine. I have only had 2 years, but I really love it as well. My guess is that you will be very happy with your purchase.

Has this been confirmed as accurate? What a horrible job it must be to go around confirming this unless one is a gay male (not that there is anything wrong with that). Or do they check before or at the time of the purchase?

Not rich, but do drive like a grandma. Only thing I am adding is a bed cover so I can keep my golf clubs with me like I did in my car.
