I wish Dick Vitale could call nothing but DUKE games so it would make us both happy!

Believe Gregg Popovich is the best coach in any sport, but K is definitely right there.

I'm sure Dick is very jealous of Coach K's wife. The guy went down on him during the Louisville game.

If Coach K didnt have the refs scared to death of him he'd lose more games. He's great, blah blah blah....I'll still take Cal.

The only game I care to hear Vitale call from this point would be UK and Duke in the tournament. I'd love to hear him console his hero while he's getting demolished.

The hate and vitriol you guys hold for a geriatric man who loves genuinely loves college basketball and is a credit to the sport is sickening.

It really is. Dick Praised Cal ALL THE TIME. You know how he is, you know what he does and you still let it bother you this much. Just let the guy retire in peace. Ive seen some people wish death on the guy. Lighten up people.

Guy sure had no trouble trashing UK fans after Tubby left.Strange that he never said a thing against Minnesota or their fans after his firing.

I think Vitale's opinion has some merit, even if I vehemently disagree with it. Coach K isn't even the best college basketball coach in my opinion, much less more accomplished and talented than Popovich of the Spurs. For my money, Popovich has no equal regardless of sport in regards to coaching acumen.

Get over it. It's not like he was coaching the team. Put the hate on Smith where it belongs. Do what you can to keep his name out of Rupp.
Vitals has said many things he regrets but I normally see him praise our program all the time.

Listen coach K at his prime was one of the 5 greatest Bball coaches of all time . But NOW he is not. He has gotten past the sweet 16 twice , FREAKING TWICE , IN A 10 YEAR SPAN and ONLY 3 TIMES IN A 13 YEAR SPAN. I know one of those times he won a title but that was due to Butler being in it more then anything . If CAL had been that poor in the tourney most of media would roast him but it is never ever mentioned by anyone .

Excellent regular season coach, but average (to below average) in the postseason for most of the last fifteen years or so as they consistently lose to programs with minuscule talent as compared to their roster. Coach K shares this distinction with Bill Self. I am not knocking them, but truth is truth.

OK ,I guess I don't see the big deal. We spend to much time trying to read into very thing not Kentucky. It's a statement and nothing else.

Pat Riley didn't do too bad either.....

But, I absolutely respect K. and he may be the best college coach, depending upon how you make that analysis. Certainly the record speaks for itself and if you add recruiting, longevity, outcome over a long time basis, hard to find better stats. Even the fact that he has been so successful in intimidating refs might be a tribute (as I agree Duke has historically gotten ridiculous calls to their favor or blindness to their fouls) helping their record. But, that could be a mark of a great coach as well. All depends upon how you define the role.

Of course all of this is debatable and it is one broadcasters opinion. Maybe the best coach is a guy like Stallings who has a crappy team, a mid level program at best historically, not always a really talented roster, and almost beat Kentucky on our home court, and did defeat our national championship team in the SEC tourney.

Cal, K, Calhoun, Boheim, Pitino, etc. the list goes on. All are fantastic coaches. Vitale still has the red *** because Cal called him out on National TV for his platoon comment.

I'm biased. I like to hear Kentucky mentioned most of all. We are still the mecca of college basketball. Haven't been a duke hater until the Christian Laettner game. It was just a general dislike. But their college is so snobbish and I've learned this from experience.

I think it's silly.

You can't base someone is best coach ever by simply pointing at wins versus one type of sports.

I think Coach K is sensational coach, but one can argue against him...

I think Coach K and Duke is like Coach Cal and Kentucky. But main reason for his success is being a great coach backed up by school commitment.

What if coach k coached in this generation of instant expectation? His first 4 season he gathered double digit loss, with that comes huge amount of pressure and criticism. Not sure he would have survived early in his career at high end college. Which would have resulted in getting fired.

Also, he also benefited of being satisfied being a college coach. Should we penalize other coaches for trying different coaching at different level? Think about Pitino, Coach Cal, and Stevens. Would they be considered greatest of all time had pitino stayed at UK, Coach Cal was asked to Coach right after his NBA stunt, or Stevens coming back to college after his stint at Celtics? (i'm rushing with Stevens here...not justified, just talking about a point).

Remember Coach Cal has the two winningest team. 38 - 2. Doesn't that suggest that he is bigger winner than other coaches? What if Coach Cal got lucky and invited to coach UK after Nets? Wouldn't he already have 2 or 3 championship...Think about John Wall's class, added with Xavier Henry, or some other shooters?

Coach K is definitely amazing. But i think he's one of the great coaches of college. The list includes in this generation, Pitino, Cal, Calhoun, and K. I think Donovan can join if he improves slightly, but i think he's notch below.

Jackson isn't currently coaching, which is why I chose Popovich. Jackson is an iconic coach whose rings cannot be denied.

You didn't specify 'current' in your description of Popovich. Don't try to backpedal now.

Yeah, coach K can't coach, he has only 1000 wins and 4 national championships. These stats certainly point out his lack of coaching ability.

Oh, so since I made an obvious mistake, I am backpedaling? How about coming off less condescending and simply pointing out that I left out the key word (current) without trying to be an pompous prick about it?

You want to see rings, Roy can show you rings. But you are right Phil got it done, just had to throw that in to the mix.

Shew, you must have something against making words plural and using pro-nouns. You are butchering the king's english. Either that, or you are Mark Twain and simply writing how you speak.

Phil Jackson is a great Coach..but I think just about any Coach would win a ton of rings with Michael Jordan, Shaq, Kobe Bryant, Dennis Rodman (The guy is a clown..but he was a hell of a basketball player.), and Scottie Pippen..good God...
