Two shooting psychology questions

1) Does the arena color mess with players shooting ability? I've particularly noticed that when teams that don't sport dark colors go into the buildings that are decked out in dark purples or maroons they don't seem to shoot as well.

2) Why don't players shoot bank shots? Is it not cool? Is it considered less skilled? Is it a less effective shot in todays game?

Arena color absolutely affects shooting ability. Charles Murphy, PhD from Brooklyn University published the first study on this phenomenon in the American Journal of Physiological Optics, c.1985.

As you alluded, the color purple (not to be confused with the movie of the same name) has a particularly devastating effect on shooting percentages.
