and its football program is in limbo.
One....the Big East is a basketball conference.
Two...college football interest in New England is overshadowed by basketball and all three major professional sports.
My guess is UConn will become an FCS school and play Ivy League teams and teams like Chattanooga, Delaware, The Citadel, Holy Cross, Maine, etc.
UConn's high water mark in football was in the 2010 Fiesta Bowl game when it took an 8-4 record and then was blasted by OU in what was not one of OU's better bowl efforts. 48-20, with 14 of UConn's points by way of a kickoff return and a pick-6.

I believe UCONN lost money on that Fiesta Bowl appearance. Once they paid for their allotment of tickets that they could not sell, it cost them money to travel to the game. They should drop football if they can't cover expenses for a BCS bowl game. Especially, when it is a once-in-a-lifetime BCS game.

Besides being a very insignificant bowl game in OU's history, the game revealed to the country how little regard for football there was at UConn...and their coach Randy Edsel even sneaked away from the stadium afterwards to take, in his words, "my dream job" at Maryland. Then seven years later UConn hired him back....an act of desperation to give the school a football team it's basketball teams could be proud of.

As a result the AAC is looking for a replacement. The field for possible big xii expansion will get even smaller.
