Ugh is really all I have to say about that game. Our offense was an absolute disaster without BMac. Hope that Lathon is good... only possible bright side is that Gaines showed some flashes of decent play. But wayyyy too tentative, we got destroyed on the boards, aside from a couple made shots early Falzon was an enormous liability in terms of defense & rebounding, Vic had a bad game too, Skelly just looked like he didn't know what was going on in the 2nd half. I could go on, but overall that was horrifically reminiscent of a Carmody team. Just ugly.

Don't want to think about that game anymore beyond that. Onward and upward, I hope.

I thought Falzon was decent on defense. He gets some things done in the paint so I really don't get the narrative of he sucks at D. He can't move 100 percent right now, but net, net he contributes.

I was actually surprise how well the offensive motion functioned. But two things. First, when a shooter comes off the pick the pass needs to be in the air so he can catch and shoot just as soon as his feet sets. That's just no NU where the wing with the ball looks at the shooter, looks the other way and then passes to the shooter. It's costly.

Second, with BMac out, no one has the capability to penetrate the defense off the dribble. Nobody. So, at the end of the clock there were a lot more mid distance and long shots that were generally contested.

Credit to Rutgers for playing stout defense and crashing the boards. The way Rutgers shot, though, NU should have won by 20.

I think I already prob was too harsh in calling out individual players above, but re Falzon I will just say that I strongly stand by what I wrote above, and emphasize the Rebounding part in addition to just defense. It wasn't just him last night but he was a big part of it. Seemed like we also started getting lethargic and demoralized. When it went to OT I had a strong feeling that we were going to drop the game.

I disagree with your comment about good offensive motion too. I do agree that with BMac out we lack people who can penetrate off the dribble, though I think that's probably self evident to all of us by about 2 years ago.

I agree with your direction Medill. But I'd nit pick that no one has the capability.

I think Lindsey and Law have fallen into a horrible habit because they're not asked to/don't drive to the basket.
