UIUC Rivals site article about THT, omitting Northwestern

Total hack job. Very few direct quotes from THT. This seems like bias and wishful thinking that it's down to UIUC and Michigan State within the Big Ten. Certainly THT didn't say that - he's far too smart, and he's played the whole process close to his chest.

MSU officially has zero spots left (they're assuming they'll have an underclassman declare) and they also have 3-4 offers for 2018 hanging out there, and THT is making it clear he's in no rush. So it would be a good situation for UIUC to have it down to a two-team race. But I don't think that's the case - I think THT sees the advantages of joining up-and-coming NU with high-quality Lathon and Nance, versus declining UIUC.

For comparison in this Rivals article Miller Kopp actually named five schools, and named NU first. Direct quotes drive this article, not author-inserted commentary.

Pretty sure it's written by an unaffiliated Rivals writer (i.e. not a particular team's site), just posted to the Illinois site.

The "very few quotes" from THT are very enlightening though. He calls Illinois the "hometown school" and talks about "finally getting" that MSU offer. He also says he's still very open to other offers. I would think that if THT wanted to come to NU that decision would have been made by now.

Eh, I see this as more akin to a young man needing to "sow wild oats" before settling down. Getting offers must feel good, a validation of what's been accomplished. Getting recruited may also be a lot of fun for some. The process will not be the same for every recruit. Let the kid have his fun if he's enjoying it. He's certainly earned it.

Just based on Rivals' recent history predicting NU recruits, we want Rivals minimizing NU's chances for this, or any recruit. I'd find a prediction to NU deeply depressing and probably game over.

But on balance, the Rivals reporting has been balanced. Plenty of positive coverage thrown NU's way this recruiting cycle as Lou has pointed out.

Didn't THT say he wasn't going to the same school as Ayo? Seems to be wishful thinking that ILL thinks its a two man race between them and MSU imo.

with THT the longer his recruiting goes the worst it is for NU

look for Kopp and a developmental big man or late bloomer in spring

I've also been disappointed to see a couple recent posts from different sites with quotes from THT but no mention of NU.

What kills me from an NU standpoint is the ongoing soliciting of additional offers. I don't blame him. I'd do the same thing. As an NU fan, I just hate it.

I'm looking forward to his final list schools and keeping my fingers crossed that NU makes the cut. Don't ask me to make a bet on that.

One thing seems definite to me: This is not a process that's going to end anytime soon as reported by one of the guys in the Sun Times a few weeks ago.

If I could predict what goes through an 18 year-old's head I could have saved a lot of $ on tuition the last couple years.

Yes, this has been reported. This author to say it's down to UIUC or MSU in the Big Ten - they're either uninformed or have an angle. THT did not say that.

UIUC's chances hinge on them striking out with Ayo, and MSU running out of schollies.

I think he stays close to home, NCAA tournament team on the rise, new arena, great coach and team camaraderie, world-class education.

Then why is he still entertaining new offers? If NU is all he wants and he's visited multiple times, why wouldn't he just commit?

Well, based on info just posted on the Rock, it sounds to me like the writer was misinformed or at least didn't have the complete picture. I wouldn't get too worried. He may not end up here, but I wouldn't get too worried about this article.

I remember one of the national Rivals writers saying we Parrker Westphal was MSU bound and defending it saying she hadn't heard him mention NU.

It's fun to go through a once-in-a-lifetime recruiting process?
This is reason enough for me but also, if you are going to stay close to home, I think it a great idea to see some other places while it's not your dime. He might fall in love with one of those places (bad for NU) but he will know he has checked out his options if he chooses NU.
He is not impatient, he is in demand.
