UK baseball, an embarrassment to the SEC

Every SEC school has been to the college World Series. Not only have they've been there. They have all been there at least 5 times each...... EXCEPT Kentucky who has been there ZERO times. WHY is UK baseball so bad?

Alabama - 5 time
Arkansas - 10 times
Auburn - 5 times
Florida - 12 times
Georgia - 6 times
KENTUCKY - 0 times
L.S.U. - 18 times
Miss St. - 12 times
Missouri - 6 times
Ole Miss - 5 times
S. Carolina - 11 times
U. Tenn. - 5 times
T. A&M - 6 times
Vandy - 5 times

I mean, I knew this, but I like to repress that knowledge. Now I'm now sad again.

I wasn’t aware it was that bad. This is what you get when you traditionally have an administration at UK who is basketball only.

Barnhart isn't perfect, but he is miles ahead of what we have had in the past. I don't think Mingione is the answer at all, so I really hope that Barnhart doesn't just let him continue to wallow in mediocrity and allow him to stick around based on 1 great year and a couple 'almost,' good ones.

My basketball only remarks were not meaning Barnhart as much as Hagan, Newton and the crew. I really like UK basketball but the university has crapped on the athletic department as a whole just for basketball. Fortunately, Barnhart has improved things quite a bit. My concern going forward is we bring in Dewayne Peevy once Barnhart retires.

I about threw up reading the season ending recap interview in the LHL with Mingione. He actually said we are 'this close' to having a CWS team at UK. In what universe is that true? We are light years from having a team that could even win a regional, much less make it to Omaha.

That article was telling in another way... Mingione kept pumping up, 'almost making the NCAA tournament.' That shouldn't be the standard. Finishing 9th or 10th and being under .500 and squeaking into the tournament isn't good enough. We should be pushing to finish top half in the league and to host. To be highly competitive in the league. In the tournament should be the bottom line minimum. Not making it should be a failure. Barely making it isn't a successful year, it's an ok one and not really a major one to celebrate. Raise the bar.

Why would you be concerned about peevey?

I think the concern there is just that he was so involved in basketball only while here that he would be the same at UK as AD and the other sports would not get the attention they need to strive.
Peevy's favorite sport seems to be baseball...was an NAIA player and played adult leagues all the way into the 2000s.

Good to know. I personally don't have any major concerns about him. Honestly don't know a lot about him. I think anymore an all one sport AD just won't fly, so I think the risk of it happening again in this day and age is low.

Right - I don't know if he will ever be in line for the UK job - but if he is, baseball wouldnt get lost on him. He loves it too much.

I personally feel if UK just makes the SEC tournament annually that’s good enough for the administration.

If I’m wrong it wouldn’t be the first time. I’m just concerned about his ties to only basketball while he was at UK.

And then with the new stadium and facilities in an effort to push the program forward we hire a guy that we now know is all about himself.

This program has become all about Mingione. “Can he do it , can’t he “ “ let’s give him another try “ all sorts of baloney about Christianity and molding men that no other coach is using as a crutch. All sorts of self serving , over produced promo videos about this coach carrying on and treating him like he’s Dean Smith or Coach Cal or something.

wow has MB been bamboozled.

To add to the stupidity in 2010 before football reached ground zero (due to ZERO things above the bare necessities done for it since 2002) football was already the MONEY COW clearing over $18 MILLION vs BB with everything only clearing a little over $5M.

No one can ignore football now, the proven MONEY COW, even mitch, where does the millions every year from the SEC come from now, everyone knows it comes from football. That had a recruiting budget for 85 players in 2010 LESS than for 13 players in BB. It took a real disaster and losing hundreds of millions to right the ship there, hope we avoid a disaster in baseball.

That rings a bell with me, my first love has always been football and I played flag football at a high level into my forties. But I love all UK sports and played most of them a little, and of course UK basketball has always been the easiest to follow. Although women's volleyball was the most rewarding lately, and fun to watch.

Football has had the worst support from 2002 until the disaster (BIGGEST ever) and any idiot could see we were throwing away millions in football with it taking over as THE money cow. Stoops volunteered and is doing a great job but we started in an unbelievable hole due to a full decade of lousy support.

Last paragraph is BS....MB has been the biggest fb supporter from any AD in UK's history, and hands down it's best AD for all sports!

Repeating the challenge, name ONE thing above the bare necessities done for football from 2002 until the TWO consecutive TWO OOC nobody win seasons. You can't, but he did pour a lot of football's money into his pursuit of the ADs all sports trophy.

Biggest football supporter my a%$, that is why we lost 20,000 football season ticket holders (you among them IIRC), if the OTHER SEC ADs hadn't noticed the coming MONEY COW and started throwing obscene amounts of FOOTBALL money at us we would have never survived.

FACTS.

Please don’t encourage him. He ruins countless threads by repeating the same nonsense over and over again.
Thanks, I get tired of repeating the FACTS of why we went to consecutive TWO win seasons. Thank God Stoops saw the opportunity here, with the millions about to roll in from the OTHER SEC schools.

What is nonsense about the FACTS I post?

But I do hope other fans have given up like you have.

This is a thread about UK baseball. If you wanna talk UK football there’s a whole separate forum for that.

Wonder if this bothers Barnhart? What makes him the worst AD in SEC baseball? Why over the years has no top college baseball coaches wanted to work under him?

I think Barnhart is the recipient of negative perceptions inherited from the likes of Hagan, Newton, etc that the only sport that’s supported is basketball. I do agree Barnhart is the best AD UK has had in my lifetime but that’s misleading considering most others were beyond horrible. It’s not hard to improve on that. The ball is in UK’s court to dispel those perceptions.

I mean, realistically it has probably moreso been that UK has not given the baseball team the proper financial backing until recently. In the Mingione coaching search we were still at Cliff Hagan, one of the oldest and smallest SEC baseball venues. While I think there were renditions and such for the new facility, it was still just on paper and it’s much harder to sell a new coach on what could be as opposed to what is really there. So, it was going to be hard to convince a new coach without that being done. Even still, we’re talking about 2 actual hires and coaching searches. Cohen was the right hire and the right guy and turned the program around and made it into something better than it was. Gave fans some hope again. After him, it wasn’t really a coaching search, it was just a promotion of Henderson. Then the last one it seems like Barnhart tried the full court press on some big names, but asking them to coach in Cliff Hagan was probably a non-starter for many.

Has anyone chuckled at the recent articles being written lately in support of retaining Mingione? Why now? They hardly ever covered baseball in the last few years, but now all these news sources are supporting him? Strange.

Much more strange to me is how they all have the same tone and feature the same or really similar quotes and statements from Mingione. Like they only ask him the questions he already has written and practiced responses for.
