UK doesn't need to be hiring first time head coaches.

This situation is tough enough without having to train a new head coach on the job.

Big time football programs can get away with hiring coordinators as head coaches. Kentucky cannot.

When UK was looking for Joker's replacement, all the guys I wanted had head coaching experience. Even if that experience was gained at a lower level.

Kentucky may need to go the Rich Brooks route again and hire a veteran.

If we go the Rich Brooks route chances are we can do no better than what Brooks did here. I love Rich Brooks and what he did for us. We were awful when he got here, but he never got us over the hump. 7-5 was our ceiling. If that's the goal and that's what you're happy with that then that's cool. If we want to succeed and win 9/10 games it'll take a young hot shot coach. Most likely that'll be assistants, but potentially coaches that coached at a lower level. Personally, I'd rather take years that we aren't good with the chance we have a breakout year with a younger coach. Lower floor but higher ceiling. 7-5 years are good, but I don't think we should get a coach where that's the ceiling.
