Was discussing the move of the basketball game with my son yesterday, and we came up with this great (I think) idea that elevate the UK-UL rivalry.

Imagine Saturday in late November, UK vs UL in football with a 1pm kickoff in Lexington, then at 6pm also in Lexington UK vs UL in basketball. Alternating back and forth Lexington and Louisville.

I like the idea of a big event to kick off basketball season which is why I'm in favor of moving the game.

However, that goes for football as well. All these weak *** games that garner very little interest to kick off football season doesn't do anybody nor the sport in general any good.

So to tweak your idea, but stay on theme and goal of big kick off event for both sports, I would involve women's basketball. Get them to play UL as well. Back to back. Men then Women or vice versa.

Move football game to beginning of season while most everyone else is playing lower tier opponents. Get a good TV spot with "ACC v SEC" marketing. Kind of like basketball does with all the classics and invitationals to start season. Essentially basketball does what football should do. Bowl season, to start the season. End of season/post season isn't for everyone. It's for big dogs and champions. All that other fan fair, parades, bowling night, beach volleyball, chicken wing eating vs your opponent ******** is better suited to start the season.

When have we ever seen anybody get drinks at B-dubs together in March?!

Tobacco Road blue bloods "hanging out" before SS, EE, or FF...Christ almighty...

Especially for UK football specific reasons. By the time late November rolls around, we're mostly worn the f out. I want to play UL healthy and halfway hopeful before SEC grinds team and fanbase down.

I always like the last Saturday in December concept. When you have this in November, not many people care....football season is in full swing. National media will barely cover it.

This is a big rivalry, the most hated one in the country. Putting it in November is a disservice and kind of makes it irrelevant.

They need to win some, or just cancel it for a while under some kind of fake arguing pretenses.

Then bring it back after some years to get the heat level where it should be.

National interest isn’t there for the game like it deserves. Pope and Kelsey aren’t personality’s that can hold a one sided rivalry together like Cal and Pitino.

Move the game to the end of October, tailgating, then basketball game at Kroger field at Noon. More tailgating, and at 7pm football game. All at the same place.

I think tying the Football game and the Basketball game together (on the same day) elevates BOTH games, making this an all-day EVENT, not just another rivalry game.

Someone mentioned including the Women's team. I'm not sure you could fit all 3 without either a very late basketball game (9pm start), or a very early (11am) football start, or potentially having overlap. Perhaps could do something similar w/ the Men's & Women's basketball teams, playing a double-header in Rupp (maybe vs UT).
