I have a few buddies who are UNC fans and most have come to terms with whats about to happen. They disagree on severity but most think they will have to vacate at least 1-2 national championships, or at least their view is that UNC should have very harsh penalties. Well...I work with this guy who is UNC fan. We teach together and today he was decked out in UNC garb. I say to him "two decades of cheating" and he goes nuts. Yells at me "you don't think everyone has paper classes" in a crazy defensive way. I'm laughing thinking I'm giving him a good ribbing but the ish got real. I say to him, "gonna have to vacate 3 titles" and he comes at me with the "I never rip your team and everyone has paper classes", dropping f bombs and cussing in front of kids. It was crazy behavior...this guy is cracking and I'm going to have to stay away from him the rest of the season bc he is on edge. I think he knows whats gonna happen and is trying to rationalize it with the everyone does it bs.

UNC fans have now turned to drugs that make them highly aggressive in order to get away from reality?

Funny how they went from "Here at the prestigious University of North Carolina, we do things the right way" to "everyone does it" in just a few short months!!! I bet UNCheatfaninky is about to go crazy!!!

The ACC higher than higher education persona is bleeding. It appears to be major arteries.

The only life blood to the brain is NC State fans screaming WHAT?.

I had kind of a similar experience....only is was about 30 years ago. The UNC guy I worked with and I had kind of a silent pact that we wouldn't talk b'ball, at least not about UK and UNC. Everything else in b'ball we talked about because we were both big fans. The morning after UNC won the NCAA with the MJ team, I walked in his office and told him congratulations on the game. Hopefully I came across sincere (I was rooting against them hard). The guy went ballistic, angry...you name it. You would have thought he would have been all smiles, but no. You would have thought that they had lost. Maybe lack of sleep after not being able to wind down after the game? Don't know but it sure wasn't the reaction I expected. After thinking on it for years, and knowing a great many other UNC fans during my years living and travelling in the Deep South my conclusion is that UNC fans not only don't like UK, but they are extremely jealous. Jealous of our success...jealous of our number of titles (more than theirs)....jealous of our #1 position in all-time wins, etc. I think that's the reason (or one of them) why they threw around so much 'the Carolina way'. 'You guys (UK, KU, UCLA, IU back in the day) may have more wins, titles, etc. but WE do it the right way, etc, etc.' I'll never forget that morning in his office. One of my employees was there as well as, who was not a b'ball fan, couldn't believe it. Told me that you'd think he'd be happy.

It really is a sad situation for the school, former players, college basketball and thei fans. I know how embarrassing it was when the Emory scandal broke. I was crushed as a fan and felt betrayed. I never felt like UK should have to cheat. I later realized the pressure Joe B was under to win like UCLA. Sadly ours started in early 80's. We got busted in 88. We took our punishment and now 25 years later we are king of the hill. UNC has done far worse than 10 thousand to a player. They have robbed 100's of youn people from a legitimate education and theirs started around 1980 and has gone undetected and unreported for 35 years. The Carolina way has turned out to be the worst NCAA violation in the history of sports including SMU and the Black Sox. I can understand why they are defensive and edgy. Hopefully the Carolina blue sky falls on them soon.

Four things are certain in the end.

1. The NCAA does nothing and the end is near.

2. The NCAA gives them less of a penalty than they deserve, the end is near.

3. The NCAA hammers UNC and gains some respectability for the time being.

4. UNC will forever be known for the worst scandal in NCAA history bar none.

3 & 4 would put an end to the Carolina Way, this cannot happen soon enough.

I too have a close business acquaintance in North Carolina and they are definitely on the edge, I have never mentioned anything about the scandal in our many chats. They really hate our unbeaten streak and had the audacity to tell me last week we would have never gone unbeaten in the ACC and said you know you wouldn't and to a point probably agree, I just told them all I knew was we had managed to whip the two ACC teams we had faced and figured either Duke or Va would be in the path to or in Final Four if we and they were fortunate enough to get that far. I had to bite my tongue to keep from mentioning their in house problems, but did as I knew nothing good would come from it, but they are as edgy as a cornered skunk.

Oh yeah, we'd have probably lost 4 or 5 games in the ACC...

It's really easy to say "we wouldn't take those kinda guys" when you can't get them anyway.

I'm glad to know at least the guys who are your buddies aren't acting like that. In the late 80's while UK was going through scandal and impending probation I worked at a place with grads from all over the country. My supervisor was a UCLA grad. I took a pretty hard time from some guys over the whole thing, mostly good natured though they did once leave an Emery envelope stuffed with monopoly money on my desk. As a UK grad, right or wrong I felt I represented the University. Basically what I told them was whatever UK did it will accept the consequences, and return again to the top. On the morning following UK's title game win in '96 I got a call from Manny (that supervisor) to congratulate me. That was one of the more gratifying calls I've ever gotten. If UNC had just admitted things and taken their medicine this whole thing would be starting to fade behind them. Instead they've been embroiled in it for years, and are still likely to ultimately end up getting some sort of sanctions. There's only one word I can use to describe their behavior. Arrogance.

I wonder...do you think they'd have the courtesy not to bring it up if the situation were reversed?

I don't want the term "Carolina Way" to ever be forgotten. They should be reminded every day what the Carolina Way really meant.

Yep. That is the crux of the whole thing to me. I'm not spending an inordinate amount of time basking in Syracuse's sanctions because by and large those fans and the program had not spent a quarter century screaming to all who would listen about how virtuous and holier-than-thou they were.

The problem with UNCheat is that they are still trying to circle the wagons as if they are being attacked. You have to admit wrong doing in order to change. They are not ready to do that yet. Some how they are thinking that they can beat this yet!

Just how long is it going to take the NCAA to come to a decision on UNC***? I am in the camp that thinks very little will be done to those cheaters. I know the longer it goes on it will hurt their recruiting but this is taking a long time.
