Some nasty politics at play. The lady that wrote that letter used to work for a former governor of Virginia that is friends with Steve Beshear.

That's a mess that just keeps getting worse! Hell they need to stop playing all sports and address the academic side in a bad way.

The accreditation issue is one caused by King Bevin. Rather than appoint the necessary number of minority members to the BOT to get it in compliance, he got rid of them all and created a new board, saying the old one was dysfunctional. The old board had a number of "yes men" that bowed to Ramsey, and some people with backbone that wanted answers and transparency regarding all the corruption. Bevin violated statute by doing what he did, and has had too much influence with the board and the President. These things all are cornerstones of accreditation - you cannot have undue political influence. Even though the agency that is responsible for accreditation says UofL has a number of issues that adversely impact their accreditation, King Bevin insists otherwise.

The whole thing is bizarre. Bevin truly tries to rule like it is autocracy. UofL has a lot of great people, but at the top levels, it is pure corruption, like organized crime.

Bevin didn't have anything to do with the Medical and Law schools being on academic probation. Would never let one of my children go to a school like that.

The new appointees are a split of democrats, republicans ,and independents. The old board was nearly all democrats. To say this board is more influenced by politics than the old one is ludicrous.

The freaking governor was influential in Ramsey's negotiations, AND he appeared at the first BOT meeting of the new board. That is the very definition of there being "political influence" (that governor's). That is the very point the accreditation agency is making. A governor cannot be involved in that type of micromanagement of a university.

The previous board had 20 members, 17 of which were placed by governor Beshear.

You don't know what you are talking about, and you're so biased in your Bevin hate you are just spouting rhetoric.

I don't see how anyone can read the facts and say what was going on wasn't already shady as ****. There was a tremendous amount of political influence present in the previous board, and much less of that now.

"The university’s former board also included nearly all registered Democrats, despite a state law that requires that political parties are proportionally represented. Among the board members appointed by Bevin, four are Democrats, four are Republicans and two are Independents.

But few on the new board donated to Bevin’s 2015 run for governor, according to online records from the Kentucky Registry of Election Finance. In fact, trustees named by Bevin have given substantially more to Steve and Andy Beshear, the records show.

Trustees donated $18,000 to Steve Beshear’s campaigns, $5,250 to Andy Beshear’s run for attorney general and $3,000 to Bevin’s largely self-financed 2015 campaign for governor. Schnatter, who has donated $3,000 to Steve Beshear, gave $2,000 to Bevin last year."

I went to U of L. It's a great school. This all political and whatever you think of their athletic teams, their accreditation status being pulled is really not something anyone should root for as it would be bad for our entire state.

Agreed. Everyone in the state should want UofL to excel in academics.
