First I am hearing of it, too. Credit to their coach for being honest about it since every January match is at home, at least.
He hadn't wrestled this season, which is why he wasn't in InterMat's or Flo's rankings. I recall Smith (their coach) mentioning that Elam was injured before their 1st dual, but I hadn't been tracking him since then, and just assumed he'd be back at some point this season.

Smart to sit Elam if his return is in doubt or he'd be less than himself. Preserve a medical redshirt, so he can come back for Year 7. Next year he'll be among the favorites with Buchanan, Cardenas, and Munoz graduated, and Ferrari imploded. Favored if Barr returns to 184.
Me too……..By the looks of Barr he may have trouble maintaining 197.
It appears that Jore Volk, who was out for Wyoming in the PSU - Wyoming dual, is also out for the season.
HWT ridiculously clears out this year, and a healthy Bastida will be the odds-on favorite. The only other top-10 guys returning will be 4 Trumble, 6 Ghadiali, and 7 Feldman.
I have no idea why Dresser tried to bring Bastida back a couple weeks ago with Kerk, Steveson, and Hendrickson all remaining. But this is a much smarter decision.
