Upsets everywhere(?)

This is not an apologist post for the SIU game. And as everyone here knows, we were getting "upset" by FCS schools and others before it was cool.

But it seems pretty trendy right now. Is my perception of this incorrect? Because I've literally lost track of how many FCS or "bottom feeder" FBS schools have upset their hosts at what were intended to be home field squashes in the first few weeks of the season. When I saw Tulane beat K State and Eastern Michigan beat Arizona State...I didn't even blink.

Around here I see/hear talk of our coaches maybe not opening up the playbooks yet/saving for conference play, and/or perhaps not pressing starters with nagging injuries to play, or perhaps a general/overall strategic failure. But is there speculation on anything else? Is this the portal at work? Too much coaching/staff turnover? Something else?

TX A&M losing is an upset. NU losing didn't even make the bottom line ticker. Anybody who has been around knew that it was plausible we'd lose because we've done this before. A coach who can't get his superior team "up" for a lesser opponent isn't a good coach. Fitz does this over and over and NU fans let it slide. No hot seat no nothing. The IL State loss wasn't that long ago.

For clarity's sake, I am simply referring to any FCS beating and FBS and any Group of 5 beating any Power 5. I am not going to actually run the numbers, but it sure feels like this has happened more in the first few weeks of this season than "usual."

For most of the teams in the conferences you mentioned games against power 5 teams are like there bowl game.You saw the intensity that SIU brought Saturday.So you better bring it when you play these teams.
Also while the transfer portal can really help your team it also can take a while for everyone to jel.Even though the overall talent level is skewed towards power 5 teams most of these games are played early in the year so the cohesiveness of various units would tend to be in the favor of FCS,FBS or Group 5.
For us well everyone knows our history.When you play down to your competition and have 4 turnovers you get beat.Akron the same thing.Frustrating as hell as we seem to never learn our lesson.
