According to Brian Straus of SI they should be announcing today. I read a couple months ago that SKC wanted to be affiliated with the Tulsa USL team since they were losing their partner in Orlando. I wonder if that is still going to happen.

Edit: Apparently SKC will be affiliated with Oklahoma City. Either way, here is SI's article on the new team in Tulsa and USL expansion in general.

Thanks. Strauss is usually right, but is way early on many stories. My buddy at USSF was saying there would be announcement today as well. I guess bogus info?

No, they announced it yesterday. If I still lived in Tulsa I would definitely be buying season tickets.

If I had to guess with the mess of the Funks and Lunds battle there will be an announcement in the next couple weeks of a NASL team coming to Tulsa as well. Talk about a f'n mess.

Only a one year deal, I am sure though they will extend. I wouldn't be that upset with FC Dallas affiliation, they have a lot of solid players in the development academy.

I'd be surprised if FCD got involved in Tulsa. They've said they want to own a USP club outright and base it in the Metroplex

The team that has been announced with USL will be playing on the turf at Oneok field downtown. I wonder how well you can play turf that is placed hours before the games. I know turf technology has come a long way but don't know much about that type of setup.

Sod is what I was getting at. I don't know how well you can play on a freshly sodded surface around the in field area.

I keep looking at this and wondering how bad the view will be from the seating areas. The seats down the 1st base line are probably only going to make it to the pitch centerline, so any action at the opposite end will require some serious seat squirming…not to mention they are going to play to the 1st / 2nd base side of the pitcher's mound so the seats on the 3rd base side will be very far from the action. The best seats will probably end up being on the lawn, sadly.

Yeah, not ideal at all. The supporter section in the Budweiser Terrance won't be too bad, probably actually a better view then when what we got now. The situation in OKC is what I have been watching, their NASL club has been quiet.

What can we realistically expect, attendance-wise? Oneok Field will be a good venue based upon location, but if the sightlines are terrible, will that affect attendance? 99% of the people who go to the drillers go because it's "something to do" that's cheap and in the summertime when not much else is going on. Soccer fans might be a different animal.

With the marketing of the Drillers staff I bet the crowds will be solid. You know the first match will have fireworks and local media coverage so I wouldn't be surprise to see at least 6500 at it, from there it will depend on the experience. I bet they will average around 4500-5000 in their first season.

I agree DD, last year the Athletics drew 2nd best in the country or something like that. I expect the new team to do really well.

Now if we just get the tax payers interested in funding a stand alone Soccer Stadium. Pipe dream I guess, but that would be so cool.

Still convinced if we got an MLS franchise we could outdraw half the league.

GO TU!!!
