Other than him having his shoulder pads and helmet on backwards.🫠🫤😐. Seriously the reports are good. Comments are that he’s bigger, faster and stronger, a really hard worker and the elusive light has come on. Hopefully he’ll be a solid contributor, and possibly a starter.

Can anyone comment on how he looks in practice?

He made the "freak" list ... he can throw up some serious weights along with excellent times in the 40 and shuttle with strong vertical jumps and broad jumps. “This offseason, he benched 455, cleaned 380 and back-squatted 690,” Feldman wrote, “but it’s the combination of the strength with his agility numbers that forced his way onto the list.” Feldman noted than Van Den Berg ran a 4.74 40-yard dash and “his shuttle time of 4.20, might be even more impressive.” “He also vertical jumped 31 inches and broad-jumped 9-2,” Feldman wrote.

Edit/Note: I didn't see Chop Robinson's numbers as he is on the freak list as well but man his numbers are almost as good as Micah Parsons. Van den bergs shuttle time 4.20 was faster than Chop Robinson's which is crazy when you think he is over 300 pounds and Chop is 255.

The 6-foot-3, 254-pound junior Chop Robinson is a little bigger than Parsons, and almost as fast. He clocked a 4.47 40 this offseason and ran a quicker shuttle, 4.22. He also broad jumped 10-7 and benched-presses 400 pounds.”

Pretty sure I saw video of Van de berg squatting 600+ pounds with the rest of the team cheering him on. I think he may be flying under the radar a bit, but a kid that can contribute this season.

I’ve seen him lift and 100% know he’ll be pushing people around. The part about his agility bonafides hadn’t yet registered with me, wow, man, honestly he could really show people something.

Definitely encouraged by the d-line's apparent progress. Not a knock on prior years - just an observation it appears to be on an upward trajectory.

this guy along with Izzard, Ellies and Artis represent a key slot on the DL. BTN camp review by Dinardo pointed to this as one our keys v UMich and stopping the run. Some other tests will likley be Illinois and Iowa. we look to be better here in 2023.

I felt good about DT until Ford went down. Now it's fingers crossed

Ford seemed to be slotted to play 3 tech where Beamon and Durant really seem to be bigger and improved, and entrenched. Ford may have been down on the depth chart anyway and for all we know may have been redshirted unless there were other injuries at DT. Hopefully Ford comes back bigger, faster and stronger in 2024 and makes an impact. But if the other DT's stay healthy PSU should be just fine at DT. And if one or more of the young DT's such as Artis break out significant depth will still be there this season

Agreed. Ford was not going to contribute much this year. Van Den Berg's short arms are an issue I believe. Top Oline players may he able to push him around.

As long as Van Den Bergs arms are long enough to “touch the dirt” when he lines up, I’m good.
