Looks like the Villanova NIL budget just jumped by billions of dollars. Now that Villanova has the wealth of the Vatican behind them, college basketball will soon be BYU and the Mormons vs. Villanova and the Catholics. Who do we think comes out on top in this new era?

Nova has some big donor who is affiliated with the LIV Tour. Big East schools will have a lot of $ initially from the settlement with NCAA due to not having to donate to FB at all (Creighton/DePaul/Marquette) or having smaller level programs.

Made complete sense that Acaden Lewis ended up there with Willard and Staff recruiting him when at Maryland and also with the financial aspect which despite what may be publicly denied is needed for the family.

Don't make the mistake of thinking that because they don't have a Power 4 football team to support that they'll suddenly have much more money to funnel into basketball. Without Power 4 football to produce all that revenue ... they simply won't have as much revenue to share if/when the settlement is approved.

Maybe I'm slow, or just don't pay attention to this stuff, but I had no idea Villanova was a Catholic school. Hell I had no idea St. John's was a religious school till I fully put together the Saint part of St. John's till 3 days ago lol. No ********.
9 of the 11 Big Eat schools are Catholic. Only UConn and Butler aren’t.

The new pope being a Villanova graduate is a fun trivia question, but I’m doubtful it’s going to affect NIL for their basketball team very much.

If you ever see a school of St. Augustine, St. Thomas. Etc.. will all be Catholic schools.

It won’t, I bet the Pope himself would rather his flock donate to the poor or the Church instead of overpaid(well compensated at worst) athletes honestly.

Which makes rivalries with Syracuse very interesting.

For those that do not know:

The Orange Order, also known as Orangemen, is a Loyalist/Unionist Protestant organization in Northern Ireland. They are primarily known for their opposition to a united Ireland and their staunch Protestant beliefs, sometimes with anti-Catholic leanings. The Order traces its origins to 1795 in County Armagh and commemorates the Battle of the Boyne, where King William of Orange (William III) defeated King James II in 1690. (Scots)

Wow, I literally had no idea. Thank you for pointing that out for me. Much appreciated 👍🏻
That's a reason why people have always talked about schools like Dayton and Gonzaga as potential members down the line as they are both catholic universities. I don't see them adding any public universities down the line (UConn is the only public university) if they expand.

I could see Duke as a Big East team if the ACC does implode. They only really care about basketball. They are not Catholic, but it’s a private school. Duke has always seen themselves as an eastern, not southern, school, I think. I think they could get rid of their football program and no one at Duke would much care outside former football players.

If they're gonna immortalize the basketball team on the ceiling of Finneran Pavillion, maybe they will have enough money to start with .... getting the artist to "exaggerate things " ... just a little bit.

They did beat Tennessee in Knoxville 1988. Duke is ok in my book (although under a coach I grew to intensely hate).
