The Dune delay has nothing to do with the movie itself, and Villeneuve is said to have been supportive of the decision having made it for the big screen, which is where Warner Bros. and Legendary felt it should premiere. Neither studio can afford to take a bath on Dune, so not only does this decision make financial sense for them, but it’s a health-conscious choice as well.

Dune's now being released on October 21, 2021, which pushes The Batman back five months to March 4th, 2022.

I don't mind waiting. I really want to see Dune on a great screen but I doubt I'd have gone this year.

What’s The Batman gotta do with it?

The Batman was slated to be released on October 1, 2021. As soon as Dune moved to that date, Warner Bros. pushed The Batman back five months because it doesn't want The Batman competing against Dune at the box office.

His Bladerunner 2049 was fantastic so hopeful for this one. But this will be the 3rd adaption of Dune?

Will theaters be here in 2022?

One of the big movie theater companies is shutting down. It didn't sound like it was for sure just a temporary thing either. Are we heading for a time with no big screens and only streaming options for new movies? I don't like that idea if so.

For one nothing beats seeing a big movie on a giant screen with great sound. Plus one ticket is usually around $10 (if you don't go to a weekend night show or watch in 3D) compared to $20 if you stream it. I guess $20 isn't bad if it is for a family to stream but if it is just for one person to watch that's a bit high.

That's the better question.

I have no idea how any theater chain of any size will be able to stay out of bankruptcy before COVID restrictions are let up. Between that and home set-ups getting better and cheaper by the month, I'm not sure how we will have theaters in 2022.

Withthatsaid, there will still be a demand for a place to stick teenagers for a few hours out of the house and to watch blockbusters on a big screen on opening night, etc.

If Paramount released Top Gun on Amazon Prime for $20 per rental right now, it might actually set "box office" records.

Also, there's going to be a six or more month gap where no movies were made, so even if theaters do survive, what the hell are they going to show?
