Basically, it sounds like Walmart wants to get more people to use their Walmart/Sam's Club pharmacies by being able to better directly control the costs of medication.

You knew once those potential deals were announced something was going to go down with Humana. Since the horizontal mergers were blocked last year vertical seems like the obvious was to go in the healthcare industry.

There is ranging speculation. The initial report from the Journal said, specifically, they were in talks about an acquisition. Reuters later said they were talking about several different ideas to broaden the partnership they already have, one of which included acquisition. Then a third report said they hadn't even gotten around to talking about acquisition, at least yet, it's all about a bigger partnership of some sort.
