Yeah, he adopted his old persona and jumped into character. He realized he was there for his mind and if he wasn't the smart assistance the he wasn't useful.
I don't think so.
I don't think he has truly turned into a Negan supporter. I just think he is self aware enough to realize that he really is, fundamentally, a coward and will say or do what is necessary to stay alive.
At least at this point in his character arc/development.
Did you not see the **** eating grin he had while walking away? I think that he is beyond his days of self preservation and will play an integral part in bringing Negan down.
Ultimately playing an integral part in bringing Negan down and doing and saying anything he needs to because he is a coward are not mutually exclusive.
Nor is ultimately playing an integral part in bringing Negan down the same thing as "playing Negan like a fiddle".
We will see.

So we got an interesting Morgan episode. I guess the last 3 episodes will focus on the impending battle with the Saviors.
Well, Richard laid out his plan to Morgan and Morgan executed. Richard was setting himself up to be the sacrificial lamb by dropping the cantaloupe off the truck, and had even gone so far as to dig his own grave. When things went south, he spilled his guts to Morgan, but after Morgan had already connected to the dots from Richard to Benjamin's death.
As he explained to Morgan, the entire exercise was designed to convince the Saviors that the Kingdom had been completely subdued and were going to continue to be 100% compliant with the Savior's demands. So, after the kid is killed, Morgan just completed Richard's plan with what I would say was an even more convincing "show" to throw the Savior's off the track of what was a brewing rebellion.
My question: How much longer before Tara tells someone (besides Judith) about the camp at Oceanside their cache of weapons and hatred for the Saviors? That's really the missing key at this point, because even with the participation of the few that are left in Alexandria, the not exactly numerous population at Hilltop, the Kingdom and the Scavengers (I prefer "Dumpsters"), there's still likely not enough people or weaponry to prevail over Negan's forces.
Obviously, it's been setting up for this moment and explains the near total devotion of a single episodes to Tara's adventure at Oceanside.

The leader of the 'heapsters' was also the crazy female huntress in 'Hap and Leonard' last season. Pretty good character actress.
It was driving me crazy trying to figure out where I knew her from....Speaking of Hap & Leonard, new season premiering this week on Sundance.
No doubt. Looking forward to another season. Now if Christina Hendricks would just do a nude scene...
The key to this whole pending battle isn't so much the defeat of the saviors. IMO it is the defeat of Neagan. There are already signs of discourse among followers. For instance, the scarface guy very clearly does not like Neagan and will jump ship given the chance. Even the leader of the food drop with The Kingdom has shown a conscience and glimpse of humanity. There is obviously going to be a war and a lot of people will die. But the key to the end of the war will be the undoing of Neagan, not total battle field victory.
Good Lord, could they drag this out longer somehow?

I am so over this show. The writing is lazy and uninteresting. I still watch because I'm invested but spend most of my time staring at the IPad only to look up and realize I missed nothing.
Pretty much agree. They have spent the last 12 episodes showing us that Negan is an ******* who has pissed off a bunch of people. That's pretty much it.
Just watched the last 2 episodes and agree with them dragging it out. Simon's pretty funny.
Was that Daryl or Dwight that Rosita ran into at the end of the last episode? I'm thinking it was Dwight. Either way I'm really getting bored with this show. It's time for all the main characters to get back together. This featuring two characters every week is getting old.
This is exactly what I do.
Most of the time I look more forward to the inane Talking Dead followup show than the Walking Dead episode itself. (Talking Dead sucks, btw.)
Mark my words they will play this Oceanside angle where Rick and crew are losing the battle and all of a sudden some of the Oceanside gals show up and turn the tide. No way they created this group just to be a source of getting guns and show Tara's transformation.
Yep. All of it was, except for the Scavengers being double agents. Didn't see that coming. They did manage to set the scene for an action packed upcoming season.
What's up with Dwight? Is he really out to get rid of Negan, or was it all an act? I think the former.
This was the worst season so far.
The writing has been subpar since Frank whatshisname left after the first season -- but this year was really bad.
I didn't expect the Sasha zombie thing and obviously expected the people from the kingdom to eventually show. The king Ezekiel's tiger getting involved was pretty cool.

I predicted to my wife last night:
- The Kingdom/Carol/Morgan would arrive just in the nick of time to save Carl/Rick (though not the tiger attack detail)
- That Sasha would come out of the casket as a zombie
- That there would be a brief furious firefight followed by Negan and his main posse escaping to set up the big war for season 8 and that no one major from Rick's group would die outside of Sasha
- That one of the groups or some faction thereof would betray Rick's plan (though not the scavengers specifically)
