Nothing official but my eyes told me he has a fractured fibula when I watched them palpate above his ankle. It could be a ligament tear between the tibia and fibula but either way I'll be surprised if he plays in the next game.

I just hope they don't risk any re-injury by rushing him out there too soon. It's clear that this season isn't going to be that great any how with the OL woes so no use taking any risks with him.

He was in a protection caution boot. That isn't what a fracture is put in.

A fibula fracture most certainly can be considering that until you take a radiograph you don't know what you're dealing with. A fractured distal fibula normally isn't going to be displaced because of the interosseus ligaments that attach it to the tibia. When the trainers palpated above his ankle they illicited extreme pain in an area normally associated with a fractured distal fibula.

My hope is that it was a bruise or maybe a sprain. The bruise thing though doesn't seem likely since the blow to his leg was above where he exhibited pain on palpation. The concerning thing though is how he writhed around when they pressed on the distal fibula.

We may not know. Sometimes when they call it a high ankle sprain as in Taylor Martinez's case, it's really a fracture of that distal fibula. There's virtually no risk to playing with that fracture but it's extremely painful. Likewise a tear of the interosseus ligament between the tibia and distal fibula is similarly painful. Either way it's hard for me to imagine him being effective if he has any of those injuries.

He may or may not have a fracture. However, based on the on field evaluation by the ATC, it is very unlikely that the trainer felt it was a fracture at the golden minute. there was a negative percussion test and then the ATC immediately brought the athlete up into a weight bearing position ----during an on field exam if the trainer felt a fracture was likely then he woudn't have done that

My first thought was a deep bruise because he couldn't put any weight on it initially, then I thought by his reaction to tapping on his foot that it was a broken fibula. Either they have him a painkiller or the pain largely subsided because he was walking under his own weight not long after that, which to me goes back to a deep bruise. If it was broken and that painful initially he probably would have been on crutches on the sideline.

Not sure how he'd have bruised it based on how the hit looked. He caught that toe on the turf and it was a rotational force. Typically you associate bruising with direct, blunt force.

Whatever it was, it didn't look like something he's going to be 100% back from prior to maybe a bowl game.

They need the light to come on for Dedrick Mills during this couple of weeks. Having an OL that could throw any blocks for him would be nice, too.
