2017 NCAA tournament Cats, my all-time favorite NU basketball team. After watching the product on the floor this season, it was refreshing to watch a good team play, with a real point guard.

Full game, NU vs Vandy, NCAA tournament
If Roper is really true real deal as has been reported, the nu basketball product next year would probably beat that 2017 team by 20 points if they played each other. There is more talent now. Something like moxy and mojo is deficient now. I am not sure why. But I hope it gets fixed real fast

So let me get this straight... a team that’s currently 3-12 in conference adds a freshman next season who is currently the #153 ranked high schooler in the country. And that freshman addition transforms the roster into a team capable of drilling the best team in school history by 20 pts?

That was fun to watch again but also really painful.
I enjoyed watching that game again, only painful because it highlights some of the shortcomings of the current squad. For comparison:

Lead guard: McIntosh vs Buie/Gaines
Wing: Lindsay vs Audige
Wing: Law vs Kopp
Wing: Lumpkin vs Beran
Big: Pardon vs Nance/Young

Talent gap isn't huge, but this year the glaring hole is at Lead Guard. Rebounding and defense doesn't compare either.

Actually, when you line it up like that the talent gap, or at least the achievement gap, is huge. Audige might be the only one at par with the 2017 starter.
