He did, but it could just as easily been a simple slip of the tongue as well.I thought that was true based on a clip were Urban called a PSU game in 2012 and used the term "We" when doing color commentary on the team.
Itās reasonably well known Urban was interested in the Penn State job but bailed because of the pending sanctions. My source at UF who worked in the football team offices and knew Urban told me personally at lunch in September of 2011 that he was in discussions with Penn State regarding replacing Paterno after the season. He was going to meet with school officials when he visited Happy Valley later in the season as part of the broadcast crew. He wanted to make sure an appropriate amount of football talent would be left to build upon when he arrived for his HC tenure.
But then the sanctions happened and he bailed for the O$U position. I was made to promise not to let anyone know before he was announced as the next HC for fear of losing her job, because she was one of the few who knew about this and was afraid an early leak of the information would lead back to her. When UM bailed and announced he was going to O$U, I posted about the aborted Paterno replacement plan on this board.
You can believe me or not. But I trusted my very good, in the know source who wasnāt the kind of person to BS me on something like this.
I remember when Urban did that telecast (Illinois game?). I was pumped, not so much for the game but rather the idea of Urban becoming the new HC next year. The tone of the telecast was pretty much that Urban was about as much a done deal as the sun coming up tomorrow morning. Alas...My source at UF who worked in the football team offices and knew Urban told me personally at lunch in September of 2011 that he was in discussions with Penn State regarding replacing Paterno after the season. The Sandusky mess was used to discredit Paterno, as certain BOT members wanted. That Meyer declined to coach afterward due to the toxic environment was collateral damage that they were evidently more than willing to endure. It's rather fitting that the BOT will evidently whiff on hiring Urban again, this time around - but will hire Rhule because he's a Penn State guy (that played for Paterno). It's enough to make your head spin, and "you can't make this stuff up."So, what weāre saying is that the sandusky lies were fabricated to prevent PSU from hiring urban.

The athletic department would never in a million years confirm something thatI meant officially confirmed by the University or Athletic Dept. something.
I believe it to be true. Imagine the possibilities. Penn State would have retained Larry Johnson Jr. There is no doubt at least one national championship would have come about.
Well, yes and no. He also bailed because of the way the University treated Joe Paterno after 6+ decades of incredible service.Itās reasonably well known Urban was interested in the Penn State job but bailed because of the pending sanctions.
I love the logic. Your friend was afraid of losing her job if the news leaked, so instead of just keeping her mouth shut and not telling anyone she tells you, and then stresses that you absolutely cannot tell a soul because she might lose her job. Brilliant! My source at UF who worked in the football team offices and knew Urban told me personally at lunch in September of 2011 that he was in discussions with Penn State regarding replacing Paterno after the season. But isn't that how all inside sources work?I love the logic. Your friend was afraid of losing her job if the news leaked, so instead of just keeping her mouth shut and not telling anyone she tells you, and then stresses that you absolutely cannot tell a soul because she might lose her job. Itās always the gossipy women. But isn't that how all inside sources work?

The hatred Delany had for Joe knew no bounds . Even Brett Bielma was asked at this years conference meetings , the difference between his time at Wisconsin , and now at Illinois and he said I miss the PaternoDelany arguments .They were also fighting and arguing over something.True -
Urban in discussions with Penn State prior to 2011 season.
BOT VP wanted revenge against Joe for perceived slight to family member on football team.
BOT members also part of Second Mile documents and association disappeared.
Media bias against Penn State was never ending.
NCAA persecution allowing players to transfer, money penalties for years.
Big Ten Commish piled on with money penalties, no sharing of Bowl receipts.
.... There is so much more to this, that needs to stay in the past .....
Penn State football players told everyone to 'pound sand' in so many words.
NOW .......just WIN baby !! ..... in spite of the 'past / recent' coach.
Jay was looking for a job he would never getI thought Jay confirmed it at some point as well, but I could be mistaken.
Like most reasonable people, he bailed to distance himself from the Paterno stench that is STILL present in Happy Valley.Well, yes and no. He also bailed because of the way the University treated Joe Paterno after 6+ decades of incredible service.

So you would welcome him with open arms in a few weeks if it were to happen?Like most reasonable people, he bailed to distance himself from the Paterno stench that is STILL present in Happy Valley.
No I would not, he is not the type of person which I care to associate. He has the necessary skills. If he were to accept the position I would no longer consider him reasonable. So you would welcome him with open arms in a few weeks if it were to happen?
That's redundant.Itās always the gossipy women.![]()
Not as bad as the stink of a human stink bug.
Describe the exact stench.Like most reasonable people, he bailed to distance himself from the Paterno stench that is STILL present in Happy Valley.
Well we all have our foibles. I'm sure you have yours as well. If you haven't noticed, as we have grown older, it's become harder to find a Saint - due maybe to an overall societal, moral, etc. breakdown over the decades. Want a good F500 CEO? Vet him sure. But the line has moved much and will continue to move. No different w/ CFB coaches. No I would not, he is not the type of person which I care to associate. He has the necessary skills. If he were to accept the position I would no longer consider him reasonable.
Not in the habit of worshiping football coaches like many here.
