Was the period from 98-06 a failure?

There's been a lot made of the "failure" of the OAD plans at Duke and Kentucky because of the lack of national titles. K has had 4 teams with multiple OADs that have resulted in 1 national title, 2 ACC titles, 3 Elite Eights, 2 1 seeds, and 2 2 seeds.

I would argue Duke was more dominant in the period from 98-06 than the OAD era, but that also resulted in "only" 1 title so was it also a failure?

I think it's more likely that no program wouldn't trade their last 5 years for ours (maybe Nova) and people just forget how hard it is to win a single elimination basketball tournament.

Great point,and i again, think it goes back to 2019 and the social media age, 24/7 media exposure inflating everyone’s realistic rationale expectations.

I don't know what word to use. For 98-06 or recently. 98-06 did see 3 Final Fours.

Look... the last three years, we've had an astonishing amount of talent. And we've never recruited at this level. To not make one Final Four with the talent we've had is colossally disappointing. I don't give a dump what label someone wants to affix to it. Failure, disappointment... who gives a ****.

No way were those years failures. National Championship in 2001 as well as an appearance in 99. Final 4 in 04 and spent a lot of weeks ranked number 1 during those years. I wouldn’t call it a failure per se. We just didn’t live up to our standards in the tournament during some of those years.
