Same as I’ve got, just with the potential of Ono over Nagao if that turns out to be legit. Interested if they go for a HWT transfer to compete with Mirasola? Not sure who is out there who would fit.

I thought about Ono, but does he have any folk style/mat wrestling experience? If not, he may struggle mightily on bottom.

Exactly the concern and why it would be a “maybe” for me. If he takes to it quickly, great that can be a good competition. If not, I think Nagao holds it down.

There is probably no one currently at 133 wrestling in college that could take him down so just choose neutral and force your opponent to take top

Ono will be 133. I don’t see how it’s anyone but blaze at 141. 184 and 197 will be from Ryder, Barr, and mirasola and one is gonna be way to good for the bench

That would be my guess. Hopefully they can keep guys like Davis, Sealy and Connor around another year even if they aren’t starting.

I wouldn’t mind a portal HWT but who knows if there will be one that’s a fit and that much better than Cole to make it worthwhile.

Can Ryder go 174 when Haines leaves? Then you have Ryder, Barr, Mirisola (those 2 can flip-flop).

I think we see Davis redshirt either way, and Facundo leaving might change the strategy, but barring OK State/Iowa or Nebraska cleaning up in the portal, I think there's enough firepower in this lineup to redshirt two out of LL (Ono), Davis (Nagao or Ono), Kasak or Haines and still win NCAAs. You can still wrestle these guys in big dual meets like what Iowa did with Ferrari this year.

Not entirely sure what eligibility status is for these wrestlers, but OK State's SR/GR are Hamiti, Hendrickson, Amine, Fish, Plott, Surber. Iowa SR/GR are Buchanan, Brands, Kennedy, Parco, and Teemer. Nebraska loses Jacob Smith and Lovett. PSU is losing Bartlett, Kerk and Starocci.

25/26 Depth:
125 Lilledahl/Ono
133 Ono/Lilledahl
141 Davis/Nagao/Blaze
149 Van Ness
157 Kasak/Duke
165 Mesenbrink/Sealy

184 Ryder/Barr
197 Barr/Connor Mirasola
Hwt Cole Mirasola

No real portal needs here except maybe a HWT but not sure who that would be.

Another big year expected. Can’t wait to see how the other top programs work the portal.

Of the Iowa guys you mentioned I believe Kennedy has another year.

We have more high end quality guys than space. The staff will work it out.

Ono might need some time to learn folk a bit. Luke and others will benefit from the free partner.

PSU returns 128.0 pts next year. Not including whatever points we would get from any newcomers or Nagao if he starts.

2nd place Nebraska scored 117.0 pts this year.

We're in good shape.

We're not getting a portal HWT.

The only returning HWTs worth considering are Bastida, Trumble, Feldman, and Pitzer. Any of them leaving their current schools would be shocking.

EDIT: I meant a portal HWT to supplant Mirasola. A depth guy or some competition is possible. We shouldn't be 100% sole-sourced at HWT. But we as fans shouldn't expect a replacement.

Looking ahead to next year 125-165 do not lose much nationally

174 loses a lot

184, 197, and HWT lose a ton

Let’s not jump to conclusions with that one. Starocci, Kerk, and Bartlett are big shoes to fill.
Starocci is one of one but Ryder is really good and Blaze could be really special

The only real concern about next year is Cole Mirasola at HWT

Agree. Ryder is legit and Blaze was the #1 recruit for a reason. HWT will be a little top heavy with a few proven guys next year, who are looking to take the next step, now that Gable, Wyatt, and Kerk are gone. They recruited Mirasola for a reason. He may take some lumps the first year, but HWT will clear out again in a year or two and he should get good experience and excellent coaching in that time.

If any of those guys you mentioned wrestle a match attached, they cannot redshirt. What Iowa did with Ferrari was because he was a freshman. And we did same with Sealy.

Strongly agree here from watching Mirasola at HWT. We saw last night the caliber of what it takes to be an Elite HWT. I’d love for Cael and Staff to go out and get an Elite HWT for next year. AJF will probably be moving up to HWT next year. He stated he dropped a ton of weight to make 197. He’ll be your pre season favorite to win the HWT weight class. Gonna be interesting.

Yeah, that's a bit of a leap of faith. Those 3 scored 49.0 pts this weekend.

If Luke, Shayne, Tyler, and Levi all jump from 3 to 1, that's 24 pts. (And Shayne might have to deal with Mendez.)

Best case still leaves another 25 pts to match 2025. Mathematically, that means either one of 141-184-285 wins the title next year, or all 3 are AA plus one is top 3 with bonus.

Conceivable but the cart is way out ahead of the horse.

Who would that be? Please name the high-end HWTs next year that would be an upgrade AND might transfer.

Don't even bother saying Ferrari, never coming to PSU. (And he's not the preseason favorite if he does move up, that's Bastida or Trumble.)
