Amazing game. Up 1 after 1, we spit the bit in the second quarter and trail by 13 at halftime. More of the same early 3rd quarter and we're down 18 and our body language is saying we're going to get blown out of the building about a third of the way through the 3rd quarter.
But, of course we outscore them 43-16 the rest of the way, including a 12-minute (12 minute!) stretch where Virginia did not score a single field goal. In fact Nia, who ended up with 29 and 14, would have outscored the entire Virginia TEAM in the second half if not for a couple of garbage buckets late, and at one point went on a personal 12-0 run.
The Cavaliers shot an astonishing 6 of 30 in the second half; our zone d was so stifling that I recall only ONE shot that wasn't contested during our 43-16 run. Just an astounding win.

I also watched briefly in the 3rd period when it looked like they were going to get blown out. So frustrating to watch the somewhat careless ball handling. I give Deary credit for her tenacious D and all the resulting steals, but oh do i hope that she can play under control and with some discipline on the offensive side during conference play. Coffey is an amazing talent - and so mature in her game now. Should be a fun season for the lady cats...
I too would like to see Deary play under better control, but after four years I don't think we're going to see it. I would just like to see her stop shooting 3's; she's never been that great at it, but 2 for 20 seems a bit below average to me. \s
If Coffey keeps putting up the video game stats she is putting up presently, we won't have to worry too much about Deary's 3-point shooting or turnovers, imo.
They currently rank number one in the conference in fewest number of turnovers and rank second in assist to turnover ratio.
They must have performed an exorcism or something. The three minutes I watched this year featured two turnovers where the ball handler dribbled the ball off their feet while under weak pressure. It was middle school basketball at its best.
