Refuses to play defense with our hands up. We have 7 footers getting dunked on and layups going in right over their heads, because their hands are down.
We have perimeter defenders giving up wide open 3's even though they are standing right in front of the shooter.
We had one guy put his hand up on defense in this game… ..Trent Noah.
How does an entire coaching staff miss this simple detail? They teach this in middle school.

I’ll never understand it. Especially the big men. Shaq deserves more respect for playing like a giant seven footer should. This new age big man is 🤢

Good point. I guess hands up limits quick foot speed and we’re a very slow team out front. There’s no way to sugarcoat the fact that our guys are limited athletically and that our coach is soft.

Rick Barnes obviously knows it, because they're confidently going right at us without having to do anything special and they are scoring at will right over us.

We need to play Alabama again, so Nate Oates can mention this in the post game presser. Unreal

I agree this teams biggest issue is defense. I mean watching them it is like is anyone teaching the basic fundamentals. I think our Asst. Coaches are failing. I think they are hurting recruiting and teaching the fundamentals

Somehow, our defense is top 25.
It seems like our defense greatly improves once our offense gets flowing.
It’s gotta be an effort thing.

Not sure what age has to do with anything other than you taking a shot at people’s age. I’m older and don’t support effortless ball and tradition is dead.
Stating that Pope's biggest fans tend to be in the boomer generation, is not "taking a shot at peoples age". It's making a statement. And the reason I said that, was because it is true. It's due to nostlagia, for the era they grew up in.

Ok I see your point, most fans that saw him play back then loved him, however not everyone from the era is stuck in that mindset of status quo bias. I am a supporter of playing by the current set of rules, unlike MB.

I think you’re incorrect. No matter our age, we know good coaching when we see it. Pope has to either get better at it ( and recruiting/NIL/Portal) or move on. It’s up to our AD ( I can’t remember his name).

Because we have a coach who sucks that’s why. I will edit this to say he sucks at preparing teams and why we defend how we do most of the game boggles my mind sometimes.

Pope was great today, but the deal with playing defense with our hands down, is odd to me.
He was great second half, why he can’t coach like that at the start of games baffles me. What is it about first halves we struggle so much with. We have to change our game preparation.

I think there are several reasons for this.
1)motivation
2)injuries
3)game planning
4)zero consistancy with the players.

On #4, we have a couple guys that play great one game, then stink the next. The players have to own that, they're professionals and they have to man up every game.

Not exactly. I am classified as a Boomer and grew up with Rupp and Hall. My son, born in 1976, ?Gen X, was in high school and college with Pitino. He had three glorious years while a student at UNC, 1996,97&98.

Maybe it needs to be pointed out to them. People complained a lot about the pick and roll defense and they've obviously worked on that...

Mark Pope’s supporters are boomers, who believe “the jersey” and Trent Noah and Travis Perry, win titles

That's pretty funny, I didn't see either of them play much today, and I am a boomer, and will support my cats, no matter what you non boomers have to fkn say about it. Your either a fan or a fkn fake, now which one do you claim to be 😜

I have followed your post and I relate to your post most of the time. Pope pumpers think fans like us hate Pope just because. In actuality, I wish Pope was great and I never had to say a negative word. The fact for me is Pope hasn’t done enough to win me over, I didn’t want him hired and still think he is in over his head. Almost any coach in the country could have done what Pope has done with his money, support and resources. If people are happy with mediocrity, then they have a losers mentality. I’m gen X, wasn’t raised to think soft.

I agree, I was on the Pope train. After that first Rupp Speech. I thought he did an admiral job last year. But the fact remains he has the worst UK head coach record thus far after the number of games coached.

We have a fifth place finish. No titles, and a S16. That’s about as average as you can get at Kentucky. This year has been total failure a lot of the time I agree. I still hope he does great though.

With his resources and the momentum from last year I expected a great class and the next step to be taken and it’s been going downhill ever since.

I think Mo always played hard, it just wasn’t working and he was frustrated. This game had to give him some confidence.
I think with Mo it’s about the opponent. The vols bigs are strong but not skilled. He plays well here because he has some skill, strength and a work ethic. Great game with a plus 16.

Agreed 100%, plus stoking the fire calling this bunch a race car and all the #9 talk is concerning.
