We're coming out overly confident and lethargic. The opponent comes out playing like we did against Wichita State last year. We lost the eye of the tiger, we need to lose a game to wake these guys up.

Yeah, that's what we need...to lose.

Excuse me, but I enjoy being undefeated.

I disagree. David will always come out fighting harder than Goliath!! Teams are packing it in tight. Our bigs have no operating room. It is only in the second half when the other team tires that our bigs get the room. We just need to keep it close at the half. We will be ok.

Agreed. The weight of expectation is only growing. It may lead to bad habits and away from team ball. We saw a little of that today when clutch time came.

In January, I don't know that we NEED to lose.

But, I think if we'd lost to Ole Miss, we'd have come out a lot better today.

I think this was a much better game for us than the Ole Miss game. Ole Miss came out and they just shot lights out. They were intense and they basically played out of their asses. Watching them make circus shots when you're guarding them pretty well does not make a person feel bad. It makes you think it was crap. Especially since we were playing a pretty good game ourselves.

This game, on the other hand, TAMU just outhustled us. We played lazy and there were a lot of instances where a coach can point that out. They wanted it more and we never took it to them. This game should show our team that they have to get out there and outplay and outhustle these teams if they want to win. They squeaked out a win today, but I think this one can be more eye-opening than the Ole Miss game. We will see how they respond on Tuesday against Missouri.

2010 had moments where they would struggle. This is the first rough patch we've had. Need to get back out there and play soon.

Sure, it reinforces the fact that playing like **** is OK because you can still win that way, which is not good.

You're one of those we need to lose to get better fans. Nice loser mentality. No, no we don't need to lose a game.

Consider the last 2 games losses. Two OT wins= at least one loss. Maybe Cal will take that monkey off their backs.

No problem with a loss before the tournament as long as it's against a quality opponent.

Losing will take care of itself unless we get back too forcing uptempo and hustling playing tough defense. Some teams it takes a loss or two and some learn quickly that they are playing lazy basketball.

The "we need to lose a game" mentality is for just that, losers. You never "need" to lose a game. What they "need" is to match the other team's intensity every time out. The reality is, it's very rare that a group of 18-21 year olds can do that every single night. So I don't think it's a matter of if they lose, but when, but it has nothing to do with "needing" to lose. You should be able to learn the exact same lessons from a close win that you supposedly gain from a close loss.

Op is right. All those loses last year are the reason the team was so tuff in the tourney. Just ask any coach. They never wNt to go undefeated, they can't wait to feel the sting of a loss.

If this teams gets any more confident they wont even take the floor, just sign autographs. A loss will have these guys back to chaotic machines.

We don't need to lose we just need to limit the amount of poon tang these guys are getting. We need to make them go Bull Durham, sorry I could not remember pitchers name.

Ole Miss shot well from 3 for sure, but they also killed us inside the arc. They shot 47% from 2, while we shot 35 percent from 2.
Something similar was occurring in this game (discrepancy in 2s). Gotta get this trend reversed. Teams are packing it in and begging us to shoot from 3, and also they are driving and scoring more inside the paint.

That's very true, but a lot of their twos were contested shots as well. You also tend to give up the drive a lot more when you extend your defense. So, I think it is much more understandable against Ole Miss. Today, there was no excuse for giving up the layups and giving them 20 of their first 28 points in the paint. I personally don't think there was anything too terribly wrong with how we played against Ole Miss... Ole Miss just rose to the occasion and played a hell of a game. Today it had everything to do with our own team not being in it mentally. I think that is something we can learn from a lot more than just having Ole Miss play a lot better than they normally do.

Ha no we dont. This game was a better test than losing. Alot more to learn about yourself. Could've gotten beat by a team who won't make the tourney, but came back and won on the road with 3 starters out.

OK, but some of that was still on us (in the Ole Miss game). We shot 35% percent from inside the arc for a variety of reasons, some of it self-inflicted like turnovers by our bigs or just poor finishing in general. In addition, they had a strategy that pulled out our bigs from the paint and also where our bigs had to come from the other side of the basket to play help defense.

Bottom line is that we have to reverse this trend to play our best.

This...^^^^. UK is everyone's Super Bowl and yet, this team has the persona of being "unbeatable" when they hit the court, it seems. I would like to see some set plays run, increased energy on defense and kids hustling on every play, much like the beginning of the season. These close wins will be great for experience going deeper into the SEC and into the NCAA. Cal needs to keep them hungry and focused because of the long season ahead....he's getting paid the big bucks to do it.

If 3 OT's in a week doesn't wake them up....I doubt a loss will.
A win is still a pat on the back. A loss is shameful and makes you angry....something they need.

I disagree but just out of curiosity, which game do you plan on rooting against the Cats?

Do you start pulling for the other team at tipoff?
