Pearl is probably about to win back to back SECTs and regular seasons and has a chance to win a title. Oats just went to a FF.

Pitino is a great coach. But the man is getting old. And while he's having a good year, the Big East ain't exactly hard right now.

For as great as Pitino was a times, he has one title to his name. That's it.
We had some teams under Cal that played damn good defense. Heck, that was one of Cal's monikers of his early teams. Let's not act like we haven't had a decent defensive squad in 23 years.
I reckon you missed the part where CMP came in here hamstrung in the portal from the jump due to our former "coach" leaving us in a bind. This whole season has been us playing with house money. Anyone with any sense can see that. We need some athletes. We're a finesse team this year and it's hard to manufacture something that we aren't. The incoming class so far should be a sign of things to come. Folks crapping on this team this year have zero perspective on what it takes to be competitive.
Auburn didn't win the regular season SEC championship last year. Auburn did win the SEC tournament and then promptly lost in the first round to Yale.

The time to have hired Pitino was when he left Boston. They should have come up with a deal to buy Tubby out. It was a huge misstep.
Do you want a 3-year championship window or a 15-year championship window? If the latter, Pope was the right choice.
Nobody needs to get butthurt in this thread. I think we can all admit Rick Pitino will go down as one of the greatest college basketball coaches in history. No matter where he goes he raises that program significantly. SIGNIFICANTLY. Has won conference titles at 5 schools, gone to final fours at three schools, won a national title at two schools. No one else in history has done so much and at so many different places. He is the most esteemed active coach in the game today. The fact he is still kicking *** in his 70s makes it all the more amazing.

His first year probably wouldn’t have been any better, it’s year 2 that his teams make the big jump. So why not give Pope a chance? He needs athletic talented players and a deep bench of them to win the SEC and compete for championships

I agree that Pitino is much, much better than what we have but , no Pitino for me. I will grow, hopefully, with Pope.
Pitino is a great coach but he is also an old man. Kentucky got the right guy.

We did hire him. He left us by his own choice. It wasn't UK's decision. He could have still been coaching here if he wanted.
