There is one ad that covers most of my screen. It’s some kind of car company that pops up on the right and covers the right 2/3 of the screen, it happens every time I view a thread and pops up after a couple of minutes. If I scroll down enough it will go away but it will be back in a little while. Very annoying! Some ads give you feedback mechnism but this does not, just have to motor through it. Has anyone else experienced this?

This happens to me on my ipad. I can rotate the screen 90 degrees and back, and it mostly goes away so I can read.

Hey gang,

Sorry that I'm just seeing this. Feel free to @ me anytime, and I usually see it faster because it creates a red notification in the upper right-hand corner.

When issues like this come up, as much info as possible about what's going on helps us figure out what to do. I'll provide a template list below, and it can always be filled in with as much info as you have and sent to me in a DM or a thread, whatever works:

Are you using the app when the issue occurs?

If you're not on the app, what web browser are you using (i.e. Chrome, Safari, etc)?

What type of device are you using (i.e. Laptop/computer, iPhone, Android phone, tablet, etc.)

What is the ad? This is usually the biggest help. Sometimes the issue is with the ad box itself. Other times, it is tied to a specific app. If a bunch of you start sharing that you're seeing a problematic Chevy ad, for example, it gives our tech team a place to start its troubleshooting. The more specific info, the better.

If an ad isn't the issue preventing you from using the board to read or post, what is?

Thanks, all! I am tied up a bit tonight, but I will try to keep tabs on this as best I can to get a resolution in the works.

Thanks for the help, here’s a screenshot of the problem ad. I am using an iPad with safari as the browser. As you can see the add covers the right most half of the screen. It persists until I scroll far enough that it disappears.

That ad is common on certain porn sites. Best to completely close out the porn and then try to view.

AI Overview

Safari does not have a comprehensive, built-in ad blocker for all advertisements
, but it features native, basic tools to block pop-ups. For full ad-blocking functionality (e.g., banner ads, video ads), you must install third-party extension apps like AdGuard, Ghostery, or AdBlock from the App Store.
Key Details on Safari Ad Blocking:
  • Built-in Controls: Go to Settings > Safari and enable "Block Pop-ups" to stop unwanted windows.
  • How to Add Extensions (Mac): Open Safari > Settings > Extensions > "More Extensions" to find blockers in the App Store.
  • How to Add Extensions (iPhone/iPad):
Go to Settings > Safari > Extensions > "More Extensions"
    .
    • Functionality: Safari ad blockers use "Content Blockers" to enhance privacy and speed up browsing

I have to add; I had no idea there was an app. Since this thread I have transitioned to it for phone and iPad use and it is awesome! So much better than the mobile web experience I was enduring!!!
