WESTERN MICHIGAN AT NORTHWESTERN
TIME/TV COMING Ryan Field, Evanston, IL

Shhhhhhh, this could turn out to be one of the most interesting sleeper games of Week 1. Northwestern set the tone for its 2015 season with a terrific winning performance against Stanford. This year the offense still doesn’t have any downfield pop and the defense has a little rebuilding to do. Meanwhile, Western Michigan should be the MAC’s most dangerous team with quarterback Zach Terrell leading a loaded offense that’ll put up points in bunches. It’s June, and I’ll probably wuss out on the pick by the time the season comes around, but Northwestern won’t be able to keep up the pace.

Line: Northwestern -6.5
June Prediction: Western Michigan 26, Northwestern 20

At this point, it is unlikely that NU is sleeping on the WMU game. This prediction should quickly find its way onto the bulletin board.

They better be more than just prepared for this team. They need to be thinking we are opening against the probable MAC Champion. This is a Championship game before the season even begins.

But they are the possible MAC champs, not NC, right? remember almost all of those gaudy offensive numbers were against MAC opponents. I'll take the Cats, laying 6 &1/2. Actually think Cats by 10 to 14.

How much did you think the Cats would win by against Miami (Ohio) in 2003?

Final score: NU 14, Miami (O) 44. Ouch!

The Cats are usually well prepared for the first game and the fact that the Western Michigan team will have the same tendencies this year as last, I believe the defense will be ready and Western Michigan won't stop our running game. Still, for our offense, passing is the big question this year. It will be limited the first two games, at a workmanship level by Duke, and should see some expansion for Nebraska. Still, the schedule is tough, our offense is still below average, and I think honestly 7-5 would be a good year for this team and 8-4 would be a great year. 2017 will be the year we challenge for the division (Iowa in transition and no OSU/Mich). By then our passing game should be firm, our O-line pretty good, and the defense still strong.

Better question is whether WMU will be able to set any kind of pace against our defense.

I'm good with minus 6.5 over that I wouldn't touch it. We just don't cover often with MAC teams. I think our D is legit even with new starters on the line and I think areas like punting and kicking will be improved this year. The offense though cannot be worse than last year! I'm willing to bet that our offense will improve much more than our D will possibly take a slight tick back from 2015. Overall as I see it, we are better in 2016. Tougher schedule so it may not equate to a better record, but in a bowl game I think our chances will be significantly better than last year's debacle!

I didn't think we would win that game from the start.

Anyway, this year it will all depend on how much he offense improves. If we can keep some drives going and finish with TDs we should definitely win. If our O is the same as last year we will struggle to be in winning position in the 4th q.

frankly, I hope they lose to us and Toledo, but otherwise I hope they run the table just so the coach leaves and I don't have to 'Flecking" HEAR about him any more as an up and coming coach. he's like a poor man's lane kiffin.
